What You'll Do:

The Private Alternatives team manages strategies across a wide array of debt-oriented private investments. Private Alternatives is seeking an Investment Analyst to support the growth of our Private Placements investment strategy.  The role will require the person to work closely with other members of the investment team, legal, compliance, and portfolio management teams to source and underwrite investment opportunities within the private placements US market. The Private Placements investment team manages assets on behalf of large institutional clients via separate accounts. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a young and entrepreneurial business unit within a global asset manager with over $700 billion of AUM.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the credit and legal aspects of all new deals, negotiating covenants, monitoring credits in which we have invested, and negotiating waivers and amendments
  • Analyze the merits of a private placement transaction from both a credit and legal perspective
  • Maintain industry expertise to anticipate cycles, secular trends and structural changes in industries covered
  • Support due diligence sessions with senior management of issuers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external analysts and senior management at our issuers
  • Assign ratings, forecast financial performance, and write company reviews

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience in fundamental credit analysis; direct experience in Private Placements considered a plus
  • A track record of outstanding professional performance or academic achievement, along with excellent analytical skills, financial skills as well as strong communication skills
  • A strong ability to work in a collaborative environment and to present results to both expert and non-expert audiences
  • Creativity - must have the ability to think outside the box on complex credit situations
  • A competitive drive – must relish the day-to-day challenge to think and act ahead of the market
  • The ability to work well under pressure – must be able to remain calm and focused while multi-tasking in a fast-paced, unstructured and dynamic work environment
  • Someone who is team oriented with strong communication skills – must be able to work with people of diverse skills and personalities towards a common goal of effectively managing large portfolios
  • Superior negotiating skills – must be able to effectively represent our position in both new deals and waivers/amendment situations
  • A self-starter – must possess strong self-improvement initiative
  • An educational background that ideally includes finance, accounting, CFA, MBA or similar 
  • A strong understanding of legal documentation in the private placement industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
