The Billing Specialist is responsible for submitting accurate and timely billing/invoicing and reports based on health plan requirements. The Billing Specialist is also responsible for Accounts Receivable payment follow-up and appeals. The Billing Specialist will also analyze and validate the data included in billing/invoicing and will research and escalate discrepancies identified.

Location: This role is a hybrid role if located within 40 miles of an MTM office location.

What you’ll do:

  • Complete health plan billings based on contractual requirement

  • Reconcile outstanding health plan aging balances

  • Review and monitor reimbursements due from different health plans and determine appropriate collection methods

  • Complete and submit custom reports requested by contracted health plans

  • Compile monthly denial reports

  • Compile proper paperwork and conduct appropriate research to appeal claim denials, including requests for refunds/credits when applicable

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with external customers

  • Always maintain confidentiality whether in reference to confidential information or as it relates to medical information for specific patients

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need:

Experience, Education & Certifications:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Minimum 1 year experience in customer service

  • Previous experience in Billing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable or Claims processing

Skills:

  • Must have effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize work and meet established deadlines and goals

  • Beginner to intermediate skills with Microsoft Excel, and Word, with the ability to import/export data to/from various data sources

  • Ability to maintain high level of ethics and confidentiality

  • Works well independently

  • Sufficient time management

  • Ability to adapt and learn on the fly given changes of course towards requests and research

  • Dependable/reliable

  • Ability to work well under pressure within a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology and services

  • Knowledge of contracts and the application of insurance contracts in the reimbursement process

  • Possess critical thinking skills, evidenced by creating new policies and procedures that improve the operation of the Billing Department

Salary Min: $18.00/hr

Salary Max: $21.00/hr
