Position Summary

The AVP will work with the Product Development team within Corporate Underwriting (CU) and will support all Business Units writing Property, GL, Auto and Umbrella/Excess lines of business with GWP premium of over $3B in 2023 reflecting 20% growth over 2022.

Job Responsibilities:
• Policy language drafting/review and coverage analysis. Ensure policy wording complies with internal Arch standards and applicable external rules and regulatory requirements.
• Provide legal advice, technical subject matter expertise, guidance and support to underwriters, staff and colleagues on Commercial General Liability coverage, Commercial Umbrella/Excess Liability coverage, and Commercial Auto coverage.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the BU, Compliance, Claims, IT, Legal and other stakeholders within the STM framework to ensure timely preparation of form-related materials required for filing with states’ Departments of Insurance.
• Monitor case law, regulatory changes and market impact on forms language for assigned Lines of Business.

Education and Experience:

  • 5 - 10 years of commercial insurance contract drafting with a strong understanding of above insurance coverages and marketplace.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Thorough understanding of insurance contract language and legal precedent.

  • Ability to manage projects from concept to fruition with minimal oversight.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to review and assess the impact of legal decisions and court cases on insurance contract language.

  • J.D. Degree

  • Member of a state bar in good standing.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$130,000 - $180,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.  The above range may be modified in the future
