Engineering Manager (PDA)
About the Role
Engineering Manager contributes to Hitachi’s responsibility to design, manage interfaces, and prepare the documentation needed for installation, test and placing in service approvals. Its specific contribution is to lead technical Governance, engineering integration, design assurance, technical maturity reviews and technical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Define the engineering management approach, design Governance, design review cadence, technical decision process and engineering maturity criteria.
Lead technical coordination across Solution Engineering, Interface & Integration, Requirements, Installation Design, Configuration/Defect control and all Work Package Leaders.
Ensure safety, RAM, cybersecurity, EMC, human factors, O&M, installation and IVVQ/T&C requirements are embedded in design outputs.
Resolve technical conflicts and ensure supplier designs are reviewed, integrated and accepted through controlled processes.
Provide engineering input to Programme reviews, customer design gates, change impact assessments and acceptance strategy.
Apply the Hitachi Code of Conduct in role-specific decisions, including ethical escalation, anti-bribery discipline, confidentiality, data protection, fair supplier/customer conduct and transparent records.
Lead technical Governance, engineering integration, design assurance, technical maturity reviews and technical decision-making.
Technical authority for solution definition, design assurance and engineering decisions within approved baseline.
Escalates major technical deviations, maturity gaps or unresolved interface conflicts.
Key Interfaces
Project Manager, Solution Engineering Manager, Work Package Leaders, Safety, RAM, Quality, Cybersecurity, HSE, IVVQ and T&C Managers.
Customer technical authority, operator/maintainer representatives, infrastructure owner technical interfaces and external assessors where applicable.
Suppliers, subcontractor engineering teams, BIM/CAD and installation design teams.
Interface & Integration Manager.
Technical gate reviews.
Authority & Accountability
Accountable for engineering Governance, technical integrity and design maturity of Hitachi’s scope.
Authorised to chair design reviews, request technical corrections, approve/recommend engineering deliverables within delegated competence and escalate unresolved technical risks.
May recommend design hold, retest, supplier escalation or change control where technical acceptance criteria are not met.
Mandate
Provide the technical leadership required to transform contractual requirements into an integrated, accepted railway solution.
Skills & Experience
Senior engineering leadership in rail systems, control/communications, IT/OT or multidisciplinary infrastructure Projects.
Strong systems engineering, design assurance, interface, configuration and lifecycle acceptance knowledge.
Ability to lead diverse technical teams and supplier engineering organisations.
Resilience and resistance to stress during design freezes, technical escalations, audits and commissioning defects.
Balanced judgement across safety, performance, maintainability, cost and schedule.
More than 7 years on complex rail/systems Projects.
CENELEC familiarity.
