The Role
Global Patient Safety and Pharmacovigilance
Overview of the Department
GSK medicines undergo rigorous testing for safety/effectiveness through clinical trials before reaching the market. However, clinical trials study medicines in a relatively small number of specific individuals, over a short time-period. Some undesirable/unexpected side effects only emerge once medicines are used by a more diverse population and/or over a longer time-period. Within Clinical Safety & Pharmacovigilance (aka Global Safety), our role is to ensure that the desired effects (or 'benefits') of our medicines outweigh undesired effects (or 'risks') – named ‘benefit-risk assessment’ – during clinical trials and post-marketing. The process and science of monitoring the safety of medicines and taking action to reduce risks whilst increasing benefits of medicines, is what we do.
We are looking for a student who can work well within a team and independently, with appropriate time management, flexibility, and attention to detail. As well as being computer literate in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, we are seeking students who can bring further technological and innovative thinking to the team. You must be reliable, enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
