POSITION TITLE    :         AUTO-MECHANIC

DEPARTMENT       :         MAINTENANCE

REPORTING TO    :          MAINTENANCE MANAGER

LOCATION             :         ST. LUCIA

NATURE AND SCOPE OF FUNCTIONS

To ensure the safe and reliable operation of all Aircraft Ground Support Equipment (GSE) in the Company’s inventory by doing daily mechanical maintenance in an environmentally friendly work area in compliance with Government and Airport Operators Regulations.

Minimum Requirements

Specific Knowledge (however acquired) Required to Start:

  • Technical knowledge in automotive operation and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification from an approved automotive training school along with CXC/GCE
  • Certificates in four subjects inclusive of English and Mathematics                                
  • Three years of on-the-job experience in the automotive repair field.
  • Valid General Driver’s License.

Required Skills and Specialized Techniques:

  • Ability to diagnose and solve technical problems related to the operation of GSE.
  • Ability to perform engine overhauls and general repairs.
  • Ability to prioritize and decide on repair methods.
  • Ability to understand and follow directives.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to understand, and accurately follow instructions and pass the Safety, Security, and Ramp Test.

Special Conditions Associated with the Job:

  • Exposure to fuels, battery acid, hydraulic oil, engine cleaning solutions, lead, mechanical   and electrical hazards.
  • Exposure to heat, noise, dust, fumes, and occasional wet conditions
  • Physical effort in lifting engine blocks, transmissions, gearbox, tires etc.
  • Required to work on shift of eight hours or more any day of the week.
  • Driving Company vehicles on the Ramp as assigned.
  • Wearing of protective gear(s) as required
  • Willingness to attend and participate in local training.
  • Ability to lift 70LB weight.
  • Willingness to work day and night shifts, weekends, public holidays, and all conditions of weather.

Major Responsibilities:

1.        To perform Daily Line Maintenance service on all Ground Support Equipment

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

Engine tune ups, removal, overhaul and replacement are checked and completed. Brake adjustments and replacements are completed. Hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repair are checked Cleanup of fuel spill on the ramp from Ramp Vehicles is done promptly. Routine oil changes, tire rotation, fluid changes, battery inspections, electrical system testing, brake inspections, and replacements are completed. Equipment is maintained in a functional condition by listening to the operator’s complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; and repairing body damage. Verification of each piece of equipment's serviceability is conducted by test driving and adjusting controls and systems. Equipment is properly maintained in appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

There is adherence to the system that is in place to review the operation that will minimize unplanned downtime and anticipate and solve problems promptly while identifying opportunities for improvement. Repaired equipment performs efficiently without any safety risk. There is a timely response to reported operating defects on equipment. Return to service of repaired equipment is within a short and reasonable period. Repaired jobs are performed without injury to staff and damage to the environment. Equipment is kept operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following the manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures, etc. Work is accurately done the first time to avoid unnecessary expenditure and cost conscious is the concern of everyone.

There is adherence to the system in place to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs. The system in place to track analyze and improve key maintenance parameters are adhered to. Equipment is properly maintained in appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting each piece of equipment.

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

The system that is in place to track work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of ground equipment is maintained. The ground equipment is constantly monitored, and all repairs are properly logged. The service repair order on each vehicle is maintained. There is verification of each piece of equipment's serviceability by conducting test driving and adjusting controls and systems. When there is regular communication with all the Supervisors/Managers regarding maintenance issues.

 SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

The system that is in place for tracking work order, spare parts and maintenance history of ground equipment is kept updated and adhered to. The ground equipment is constantly monitored, and repairs are done promptly and logged so that equipment is returned to the operation recommendations where necessary.

SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL HAVE BEEN ATTAINED WHEN

All service maintenance forms, for service that was completed, are turned into operations at the end of each day.

Reports and paperwork completed are accurate. There is adherence to the organization and control documentation on all vehicles in an organized and efficient manner.
