This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. The starting pay for this position is $19.29/per hr. and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
Employees may report to Denver Mountain Parks Headquarters in Morrison, Colorado, or to Echo Lake Park in Clear Creek County, Colorado
Denver Mountain Parks is hiring seasonal team members to help operate the Mount Blue Sky Recreation Area, home to the highest paved road in North America. This scenic destination includes the Welcome Station, Mount Goliath Nature Center, Summit Lake Park, and the Mount Blue Sky Summit, attracting visitors for recreation, sightseeing, and auto touring.
Recreation Assistants ensure a safe, welcoming, and educational experience for all visitors. Responsibilities include greeting guests, confirming reservations, maintaining clean and accessible facilities, and supporting interpretive programs that protect the area’s natural and cultural resources.
Key responsibilities include:
Open and close facilities, including the Welcome Station and Nature Center; run daily reservation reports
Welcome and orient guests: confirm reservations, explain rules, answer questions, and provide interpretive materials
Assist visitors without reservations and deliver educational messaging on park rules and resource protection
Perform light maintenance and cleaning of visitor areas, restrooms, and surrounding grounds; assist with snow removal
Monitor visitor activities for safety and environmental compliance; report hazards, violations, and assistance needs to park rangers
Track weather and road conditions; monitor wildlife interactions and intervene or report as needed
Provide educational outreach to visitors on alpine ecology, history, and conservation
Support special events with traffic control, parking assistance, and guest services
Safely operate vehicles on steep, winding mountain roads and lift up to 50 lbs.
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Strong customer service and communication skills
Committed to creating a safe, engaging, and enjoyable environment for visitors of all backgrounds
Comfortable working 8–10 hour shifts outdoors in high-altitude alpine environments (up to 14,000 feet) with exposure to variable weather conditions including snow, rain, wind, hail, fog, lightning, and strong UV radiation
Comfortable working around wildlife
Basic knowledge of alpine ecology desired

Licensure: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within six (6) months of date of hire.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
