ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking an Infrastructure Capacity Manager to join the Global Digital Infrastructure Solutions (GDIS) Team. They will be responsible for managing Global Data Center capacity and the provisioning team’s resources as well as tracking progress. They will also be the primary contact with the business owners and coordinate with the vendors to set delivery expectations. In the event of a release issue, they will work with the various Digital teams to resolve the problem.
This role requires a self-motivated leader who can collaborate between the Digital teams to make the provisioning process flow as efficiently as possible. They will need to constantly review work instructions, documentation, and update templates when needed. They will need to meet with business owners on new initiatives and provide timely solutions. They must ensure these solutions are qualified and compliant in accordance with Pfizer governance.
In addition to provisioning, the Infrastructure Capacity Manager will need to be familiar with procurement procedures and have a knowledge of the latest hosting technologies.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional:
Manage Global Data Center Infrastructure capacity
Track Data Center infrastructure usage
Manage Data Center migration activities as they align with DC2027 and other programs
Track power consumption vs. reservation and make recommendations to ensure efficiency
Initiate the server provisioning process for new builds and upgrades.
Propose server hardware configurations based on Pfizer Engineering’s job aids.
Track hardware deliveries and provide Site Services delivery expectations.
Review Pfizer Work Instructions and Knowledge Base Articles (KBAs) and propose revisions as needed.
Review new requests submitted to the Capacity Management Team.
Assign server names that align with Pfizer’s standards and create NSA groups.
Periodically meet with SP&R team leads to review L1 Monitoring Reports to ensure builds are compliant.
Send release messages to clients when their requests are completed.
Track progress of physical server builds and when they complete start the logical builds including the OS installations.
Request and review server hardware quotes to make sure that they meet client’s requirements and meet Pfizer’s high standards.
Submit Ariba purchase requisitions (PR) for servers and server parts. Track PR progress and provide vendors with the approved purchase order (PO).
Maintain a global capacity pool of servers that can be reused and are not End of Service Life (EOSL). Submit retirements for EOSL servers in our capacity pool.
Maintain remaining spare equipment in Groton Building 90. Ship equipment as needed for server remediations.
Relocate decommissioned servers for reuse.
Provide completed server builds reports as needed.
Reclaim Veritas Licenses and maintain a pool of them for use in new Unix servers.
Meet regularly with Pfizer Engineering to stay up to date on new issues and product rollouts.
Periodically provide Pfizer’s Testing Lab with decommissioned parts and servers to keep the Lab as current as possible.
Create and update Service Manager templates and Request Manager forms
Leadership:
Manage client’s expectations for builds in provisioning pipeline and set priorities with team.
Oversee the provisioning process and ensure that Pfizer’s Multiple Service Providers (MSPs) are closing tasks in a reasonable amount of time.
Resolve escalations from clients and vendors regarding on-prem server deployments.
Establish good relations with hardware vendors and server procurement contacts in multiple locations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with five years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree with three years of relevant experience; OR associate’s degree with eight years of relevant experience; OR Ph.D. with 0+ years of experience; OR 10 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent
Project Management skills a must
Good written and oral communications required
Working knowledge of Jira
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in Service Manager software, Atlassian products, and SAP procurement tools.
A familiarity with ITIL framework is a plus.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Some travel required, less than 10%
