Job Summary

This is a craft labor position that is expected to execute daily tasks across solar sites to assemble and install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and follow safety regulations
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments, material, or equipment needs
  • Receiving and kitting of materials
  • Inventorying specific parts, supplies, quantities, and conditions
  • Install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards, using drawing, schematics, and instructions
  • Install required labels on solar system components and hardware
  • Determine PV system designs or configurations based on factors such as customer needs, expectations, and site conditions
  • Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiency
  • Diagram layouts and locations for PV arrays and equipment, including existing building or site features
  • Identify and resolve any deficiencies in PV system installation or materials
  • Activate PV systems to verify system functionality and conformity to performance expectations
  • Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected
  • Wash out cargo containers, storage areas, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Use hand and power tools, including clamps, jigs, nut driver, impact wrench, hydraulic fastener, and other pneumatic and mechanical tools not separately classified
  • Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretch lines
  • Unpack, handle, sort, and layout materials
  • Handle, load, position posts, use bolts, screws, rivets, and brackets to assemble and mount galvanized tubes, rails, and other components including motors, controls, pumps, and photovoltaic panels
  • Mix and pour material, clean surfaces, apply sealant and other protective coatings
  • Fire watch, guide, flag, signal, and direct traffic and equipment, assemble trench bracing
  • Operate hand-propelled trenching machine, compactor, skid steer, all terrain forklifts, and telehandlers (under 10 tons), loader/backhoe (under 2 cubic yards) to load, position, unload, and level materials, lubricate, clean, and tend pump, compressor, generator, and machinery
  • Install silt fencing around the jobsite and specified locations throughout the jobsite, as stated by project blueprints. Install biodegradable erosion control materials as required (Fencing)
  • Construct and maintain water diversion/erosion control ditches, drains, French drains, culverts, and water retention ponds as required (landscaping)
  • Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Digging trenches using hand tools, locating installed piping systems using magnetic or radio indicators, checking pipe alignment and sealing pipes, filling and sealing pipe trenches (Pipelayer)
  • Collect and dispose of debris

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Must be able to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety and quality standards and effectively utilize tools and equipment relevant to the work
  • Must possess demonstrated ability and 0-1 years of experience (Level I), 1-3 years of experience (Level II), 4+ years of experience (Level III)
  • Demonstrate effective and appropriate workplace verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • This position involves Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, lift and grab; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk, see clearly and hear.
  • Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat inclement weather & noise.
  • Willing to work in various locations across the state/country and for extended periods, when required. 100% travel availability required.
  • Must have the endurance necessary to perform these duties up to 12 hours daily, according to the schedule.
  • Be on time and ready to work at the start of each standard shift.
