BNL’s Nonproliferation and National Security Department (NN) contributes to U.S. nuclear security and safeguards efforts by assisting in the development, analysis and assessment of policies that strengthen international regimes, collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and threats to the U.S. and international communities, developing and implementing new technologies to address existing and emerging threats, and strengthening the domestic and international institutions that form the framework of the nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security regimes through training and engagement.
The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Radiological Assistance Program (RAP) provides the nation with an agile, scalable and rapidly deployable Federal first response capability in support of radiological/nuclear crisis operations and consequence management events. RAP leverages the scientific and operational expertise to enhance the nation’s integrated response capability by training and partnering with other Federal, Tribal, State and Local agencies. RAP provides technical leadership and assistance during planning, preparedness and response operations as on-call Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) specialists. BNL hosts the RAP Region 1 Team.
Position Description
The Radiological Assistance Response (RAP) Regional Training Coordinator (RTC) is the primary contact to manage the day-to-day training related activities to meet the regional and national RAP program objectives. In this position, you will report to the Regional Operations Manager (ROM) and will work closely with other NNSA programs across the complex. Regionally, you will manage the personnel training readiness, drill and exercise planning and execution. You will be responsible for ensuring the team is trained to assess the safety and environmental consequences of a radiological or nuclear incident and that local and national training requirements are met by team members. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.
