Job Description

Peterson Trucks has the immediate need for an experienced Truck Porter at our Portland, OR location.

SUMMARY

The Truck Porter serves to assist with lot activity and transport and assists the truck dealership with other duties if needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned.   • Transport up to Class 8 tractors, trucks, and trailers.
  • Setting up the lot, and/or assisting the staff to organize and move trucks around.
  • Ensuring that there are adequate fuel levels in trucks for test drives, refueling if necessary.
  • Issuing key tags with stock numbers on new truck deliveries.
  • Drive trucks around as directed to ensure adequate space and placement of trucks.
  • Drive trucks to service shops, if necessary.
  • Pick up and/or deliver trucks if directed.
  • Secure vehicles at the end of the business day.
  • Wash vehicle and trailer washing, detailing and cleaning.
  • Perform miscellaneous clean-up of shop and yard.
  • Perform various assigned shop and parts duties.
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance. 
  • Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.

Based on location the following duties may or may not apply

  • Responsible to plug in computer to truck to download fault codes; provide information to Inside Sales Representative (ISR).
  • Perform Rental check-in to assess any damage: walk around truck and note damage.
  • Provide report to office staff in order to address issues with customer.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work overtime as needed within labor law and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.  
  • Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers/ coworkers, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure. 
  • Respectfully takes direction from supervisor/manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and a minimum of two years of related experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENCENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possess valid Class B driver's license with required endorsements and current Medical Certificate. Must possess a clean DMV driving record.
