About the role

Zillow’s Public Data Assessment Engineering Team is seeking a skilled, self-motivated Senior Software Development Engineer to help build the next generation of our real estate data platform. In this role, you will develop and evangelize Data Products tailored for customer, property, and business-specific data. These products will simplify critical ML and Analytics products, like the Zestimate, enrich customer experiences, and streamline marketing operations. We’re constructing an event-driven microservice framework that leverages cutting-edge AWS technologies and multiple programming languages. As a member of this team, you will:

  • Architect, design, build, implement, and support internal react.js web applications and data pipelines/products to ingest and standardize data, serving ML and analytical use cases.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and analysts on mission-critical property data needs to construct world-class datasets.

  • Identify opportunities to evangelize and improve existing data processes.

  • Lead various initiatives to advance our technology and improve our data solutions.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $156,300.00 - $249,700.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • 6+ years of software development experience using Python/Java, with a focus on leading the design and implementation of event-driven, scalable, and reliable services and workflows/pipelines using Airflow, Hive, Spark, Kafka, EMR, or equivalent technologies.

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience in developing front end technologies like React.js, Next.js etc.

  • Expertise in establishing and promoting high standards in pipeline monitoring, data validation, testing, etc.

  • Experience with Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Passion for learning new technologies and building distributed systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for collaborating across organizational boundaries.

  • Comfort in distilling informal customer requirements into clear problem definitions, resolving ambiguities, and balancing challenging objectives.

  • Enthusiasm for mentorship, including coaching, onboarding, and leading teammates.

  • Bonus: Proficiency in Docker, Terraform, T-SQL development skills.
