The Field Service Engineer supports the aftermarket services group by providing on-site service to customers through leadership level hands-on technical assistance, telephone support, factory training support, and liaison from customer to the factory. Specifically, responsible for commissioning and servicing energy storage inverters, HV battery storage systems, and various Industrial DC power conversion systems.

  • Service, analyze, and repair Industrial Power Conversion equipment, Energy Storage equipment, peripheral systems, and associated controls throughout the world.
  • Onsite commissioning of complex Energy Storage Systems and Industrial power supplies, new and refurbished, to include the integration of customer controls and peripheral systems.
  • Provide recommendations to site and system level control integration and scheme.
  • Provide educated recommendations to maintenance schedules and services to maximize customer uptime on all Dynapower systems.
  • Works independently (self-managed) with little to no guidance or Technical Support.
  • Write detailed technical service reports with visual illustrations for all services rendered to include but not limited to; recommended spare parts, owner operator recommendations, forward action plans to maximize uptime and system longevity.
  • Write detailed procedures, work instructions, and maintenance plans for technicians and customers.
  • Provide classroom level training on SCR and SMPS power supplies to include but not limited to; owner operator training, system diagnostics, product preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Preform design and engineering changes and recommend product improvements.
  • Update documentation, PLC code, write technical papers and specifications.
  • Ability to support Dynapower customers and Field Technicians in a remote capacity via phone, video, email, etc. when not operating in the field.
  • Ability to support Dynapower factory testing with little to no guidance.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
  • 5+ years of current experience in the power electronic conversion field or in related area.
  • 7+ years of current field service experience.
  • Experience required in the use of basic mechanical hand tools and electrical test equipment used for maintenance and measurement of line frequency power circuits (i.e. DVM, current measurement of AC and DC circuits, oscilloscope, power analyzers, and energy measurement equipment).
  • Experience with medium voltage power system is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite particularly but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Advanced computer skills and Networking are required.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to dynamic work conditions.
  • Familiar with various forms of communication protocol, i.e. Modbus, CAN, RS232, RS485
  • Understanding of latter logic and PLC functions is required.
  • Excellent comprehension of various styles of single line drawings and advanced electronics.
  • Knowledge and safety practices of High Voltage Battery Storage/Systems.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures required to service energy storage and power conversion equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of low voltage (0-600Vac) control circuits.
  • Must be able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals in an efficient, safe and timely manner.
  • Must have an excellent working knowledge of single and 3-phase power systems and an excellent working knowledge of power conversion topology.
  • Board level electronic component and subcomponent understanding is required.
  • Knowledge of metal finishing, Industrial power system, Electro Chemical processes, Mining processes, and energy storage and conversion required.
  • Ability to perform most functions without assistance is required.
  • Ability to safely work around medium voltages.

Work Environment

This job is in an array of different environments and locations. Primarily in outdoor environments. Some work is inside an industrial facility. Working around low, medium and high AC and DC voltages.  This role routinely uses standard personal protective equipment such as required Safety Glasses and Safety shoes as well as hearing protection and gloves, as required. 

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Constantly move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.  Specific abilities required by the job include positioning oneself to lift or move objects weighing to 40 pounds, pushing and pulling objects with up to 200 pounds.

  • Constant movement and use of limbs. Specific abilities required by this job include prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and frequently pinching and/or gripping.

  • Frequently observe, detect, discern, and convey information. Specific abilities required by this job include near, far and color vision acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Requires good manual dexterity and coordination, and stamina. Specific abilities required by this job include the frequent requirement of overtime work.

Travel

Travel is primarily 75-80% of the job with a primary focus in the assigned region of the U.S. International travel is possible, although unlikely, and may be offered based on customer and staffing demands, but this only occurs on rare occasions.

Hourly Base Pay Range:

$26.63 - $36.62
