Your role:

The Healthcare Consultancy Service team at Philips helps healthcare organizations improve care delivery through operational planning, digital transformation, and healthcare technology solutions. As an AI Application Intern, you contribute to this mission by developing scalable, production-ready AI applications and intelligent workflows that improve how healthcare data is utilized globally. The role focuses on building reliable and secure AI-driven systems using Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, workflow orchestration, and structured automation rather than simple prototypes. Working within a global consultancy environment, you help bridge advanced AI technologies with real healthcare and business challenges, supporting innovation, efficiency, and smarter decision-making across international healthcare systems.

Key Responsibilities

Must have: AI Application Development

• Interactive UI Prototyping: Design, code, and deploy user-friendly web applications utilizing Python to turn complex AI logic into accessible scenario-planning hubs.
• Production Interface Integration: Build and maintain web application components, bridging Python-based AI backends (e.g., FastAPI, Flask) with modern software platform frontends (e.g., React, Vue.js, or cloud-native UI components).
• UI/UX for Complex Workflows: Create intuitive interfaces tailored for professionals, balancing extreme interface flexibility with deterministic system control.

Good to have: Agentic AI & Multi-Agent Architecture

• Design Agentic Systems: Architect, deploy, and test advanced autonomous AI agents and Multi-Agent task-handling systems using enterprise frameworks like LangChain, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, or AutoGen.
• Inter-Agent Communication & MCP: Implement agent-to-agent communication patterns, tool-calling mechanisms, and modular integrations utilizing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to securely connect LLMs with external data pipelines and application tools.
• Orchestration & Control: Develop generalizable patterns for prompt optimization, structured output control, and robust model routing across multiple cloud LLM providers (e.g., Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, LLaMA).
• Evaluation & Guardrails: Design evaluation logic, validation methods, and safety guardrails (including "Human-in-the-loop" mechanisms) to manage the limitations of probabilistic systems and ensure application reliability.

1. You're the Right Fit If:

• Education: You are studying towards your University Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Sciences, AI/Robotics, Software Engineering.
• AI & Software Integration: You have practical experience building AI-powered applications, understanding prompt design, output validation, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture, and AI Agent design patterns.
• Software Engineering Toolkit: Highly proficient in Python (and/or C#, Java). Comfortable working with APIs, backend systems, web frameworks, and cloud environments—specifically Azure.
• Data Foundations: Experience working with databases (Python, SQL) and data manipulation/visualization tools (Excel, PowerBI).
• Production Mindset: You think beyond basic demos. You care about application scalability, maintainability, CI/CD pipelines (DevOps), and balancing agent autonomy with strict business guardrails.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

We offer you:

• Monthly full-time allowance between €500 - €700 gross, depending on your education level and if you need to relocate to The Netherlands. Part-time internships receive the allowance pro-rata. 
• Housing compensation. Should you need to relocate to near our office, we’ll offer you a monthly allowance of €300,- net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, €255,- net for all other Philips locations. To be eligible, we’ll just ask for the rental contract from your landlord, and your usual home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or 1.5 hours of travel time (for a one way trip). 
• Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max. €192,- net as a monthly allowance. 
• Paid holidays per internship term. 
• The opportunity to buy Philips products at our Philips shop.
