People Technology is one of the major segments of Walmart Global Tech’s Enterprise Business Services, which is committed to building a compact, robust organization that encompasses service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, and the Associate Digital Experience.

Enterprise Business Services at IDC Bangalore and Chennai, India, are focused on data-driven, highly optimized products and implementations in the areas of Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, and Retail business functions for multiple Walmart markets. These implementations leverage open-stack technologies and other ERP tools.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of the EBS People Tech: Payroll technology team. We are defining the leading edge of technology to provide innovative solutions to our business customers and support millions of associates at Walmart. As part of Payroll technology, we have embarked on an exciting journey to modernize and transform the Payroll platform, which supports 2.5 million U.S. associates.

  • Design and Deliver Solutions: Design, build, test, and deliver highly reliable, scalable enterprise platforms and products using technology stacks such as Python, Scala, Spark, Java, React Native, Node.js, React.js, SAP systems, and Google Cloud Platform (DataProc, BigQuery).
  • Architectural Modernization: Provide solutions by applying the right architectural patterns for application modernization, analyzing gaps between existing architectures and new business requirements, and delivering robust designs to meet enterprise needs.
  • Technical Excellence: Drive technical impact analysis, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective actions for both short- and long-term fixes to prevent recurring issues.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Develop close partnerships with cross-functional teams, including Product, People API, and Workday teams, to foster innovation and deliver on commitments to business customers.
  • Operational Excellence: Operate with excellence by managing KPIs, delivering exceptional results, presenting at all organizational levels, and fostering a culture of continuous development for yourself and others.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines for faster and more efficient delivery. Continuously improve, optimize, and identify opportunities to enhance the software development lifecycle.
  • Lead and Ownership: Lead initiatives to ensure quality, scalability, and innovation while driving the adoption of modern engineering practices across the team and organization.

What you'll bring:

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in programming languages, including Python, Scala, Spark, and Java, with demonstrated experience in enterprise software development.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform services such as BigQuery, DataProc, and cloud infrastructure.
  • SAP Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with SAP Payroll or similar enterprise SAP systems, including integration and customization capabilities.
  • Full-Stack Skills: Strong understanding of front-end and back-end development, with knowledge of React Native, Node.js, React.js, and full-stack frameworks and libraries relevant to modern web applications.
  • Data Engineering Experience: Expertise in building and managing data pipelines, ETL processes, and working with large-scale datasets.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Analytical thinker capable of resolving complex technical challenges in high-pressure environments.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong team player with excellent communication skills, capable of working in cross-functional and global teams.
  • Continuous Learning: Passion for learning new technologies, staying updated on industry trends, and driving innovation.
