Are you a Human Centered Designer (HCD) who is excited about:

Our growing Human Centered Design team is looking for a highly motivated, collaborative individual who is strategically driven and can drive change to achieve our vision of becoming a Digital Customer Leader.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Develop and grow a talented group of designers by providing:

    o   Regular formal and informal feedback.

    o   Opportunities and support to develop either the leadership or individual contributor career paths.

  • Enhancing storytelling techniques by designers. 
  • Recruiting new Human Centered Design talent when required.
  • Promote the value of Human Centered Design by leading and supporting the team’s successful delivery of their design work and through effective storytelling.
  • Contribute to the creation of storefront strategies for John Hancock’s customer facing sites.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to identify and define opportunities and then execute on them.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to establish strategic direction for the experiences that will achieve John Hancock’s long-term vision and goals.
  • Lead the efforts to establish John Hancock’s design system and represent John Hancock with our global partners to ensure it informs and is informed by the global design system. 
  • Lead the John Hancock AI design initiatives, providing strategic oversight, and ensuring alignment with the global AI design system by forming and supporting a global AI design community.
  • Partner with our Research partners to ensure research and testing are incorporated where it has the most impact on design initiatives. 

Desired qualifications for this position include: 

  • At least 7-10 years of Human Centered Design experience delivering simple and complex solutions for digital environments. 
  • A strong understanding of Human Centered Design methods and techniques with a desire to continue to build your understanding and the understanding of other designers. 
  • A strategic mindset towards Human Centered Design and the role it plays in achieving business goals. 
  • Strong communication skills for communicating across business units and with senior leaders to lead, support, and update design initiatives.
  • The ability to establish and support continuous improvement of customer experiences.
  • Demonstrate vulnerability and humility as a leader.  
  • Management, mentorship, or informal leadership experience. 

Nice to have: 

  • 1 -3 years informal or formal Human Centered Design leadership experience. 
  • Working understanding of how HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other front-end technologies that play a role in design.  
  • Business analyst experience.

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,325.00 USD - $155,385.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
