Job Description:

Cancer Center Manager

Functions as a manager within the leadership structure of the Bay Area Cancer Center. Demonstrates and contributes towards a shared vision amongst the entire leadership team, holding high expectations for themselves and others.

POSITION SUMMARY

Functions as a manager within the leadership structure of the Bay Area Cancer Center. Demonstrates and contributes towards a shared vision amongst the entire leadership team, holding high expectations for themselves and others.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the day to day operations of the cancer center departments and personnel: Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Patient Navigation, CoC Accreditation.
  • Collaborates with the leaders of Medical Oncology Infusion and Cancer Center Pharmacy to accomplish operational goals and timely care for patients.
  • Executes on the strategic initiatives set annually.
  • Evaluates the process and effectiveness of overall patient care in the cancer center in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Assists stakeholders in establishment of departmental goals for service, patient care, and patient safety.
  • Monitors progress towards established goals and periodically reports to administration.
  • Oversees development, progress towards, and reporting of quality measures for individual units and the division as a whole.
  • Works with key stakeholders and cancer center administrator to ensure regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements related to patient care and documentation are being met. Assists in formulation of remediation plans, when indicated.
  • Participates in creation, review, revision, development and approval of division/department policies and procedures and creation and engagement of standard work within Standard Operating Procedures framework.
  • Supervises leader direct reports as assigned.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with peers, staff, physicians and other members of the health care team.
  • Rounding with direct reports regularly and maintains “open door policy” to foster constructive communication with staff.
  • Rounding regularly with providers to ensure engagement and teamwork.
  • Selects, trains, coaches, supports, and evaluates employees all direct reportsin the cancer center.
  • Establishes performance objectives, assessment measures, and improvement plans for direct reports.
  • Completes and documents a timely annual evaluation for each employee and builds/maintains current competencies for positions requiring them.
  • Builds and supports a collaborative, committed leadership team within the cancer center and drives culture around the BAH values: Kindness, Excellence, Teamwork, Ownership, Innovation.
  • Supports and assists employees with conflict resolution processes, including but not limited to, corrective action, and other personnel issues.
  • Participates in appropriate professional organizations to improve knowledge and practice within the field. Applies knowledge gained through continuing education to improve operations within the department.
  • Manages and maintains employee schedules, time off requests, time keeping records, overtime and manages department productivity to set targets.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining, and evaluating annual budgets and capital budgets, monthly/annual financial statements (MOR’s) related to the financial performance of the departments within your purview.
  • Coordinates provider schedules, locums’ management, development plans for future coverage based on the needs of the department, and provider timesheets and time off coordination.
  • Participates in provider interviews as necessary.
  • Manages inventory, ordering, and accounting of office supplies and equipment.
  • Manages accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing/coding, denials.
  • Manages contracts appropriate to your role and related invoice processing.
  • Represents BACC on various BAH committees and task forces.
  • Schedules and facilitates staff meetings, department huddles and employee training.
  • Interviews, hires, and manages personnel, sets and holds clear expectations for each role.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, annual employee goal setting and regular metrics evaluation.
  • Maintains and manages all pertinent recordkeeping and required reports.
  • Coordinates facility needs such as repairs, maintenance, housekeeping, etc.
  • Manages patient and employee incident reports.
  • Acts as liaison and facilitator for patients, staff and providers.
  • Fosters and maintains a good working relationship with BAH and departments within the organization.
  • Facilitates and maintains a cooperative and productive work environment focusing on meeting the needs of patients.
  • Oversees and facilitates all activities within the clinic while working collaboratively with other leaders within the cancer center.
  • Maintains effective communication within the clinic and sets the example for the cancer center team.
  • Assists in preparing and delivering both written and verbal communications as required.
  • Provides guidance and oversight to staff.

  • Ability to relate to all levels of the user community and translate technical language to lay audiences
  • Ability to be team player that motivates and educates other team members
  • Ability to link and apply complex technologies to business strategies
  • Ability to build and lead an effective team

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Required Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business or Clinical Science or related field

EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Minimum of 5 years’ leadership experience
  • Preferred: 5 years’ clinical experience (preferably experience in medical or radiation oncology)
  • Preferred experience in project management, organizational development and quality improvement initiatives.
