Position:        Bartender

Reports To:   Food and Beverage Manager

FLSA Status: Hourly/Nonexempt

Summary

The Bartender is responsible for the providing the highest degree of professional bar service to guests of the Wilmington Convention Center with the goal of achieving customer satisfaction and retention and accurate accounting of all transactions, including inventory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Event Duties

  • Attend pre-function meetings for briefing of event details.
  • Set up individual beverage locations with ample supplies of beverages, paper products, glassware and garnishes.
  • Verify the cash register is programmed properly, according to WCC approved sales prices
  • Verify and account for pre-event beverage inventory and cash.

Event Service Duties

  • Provide friendly and courteous guest services at all times.
  • Remain at assigned station(s) and perform duties as assigned according to each event.
  • Prepare all beverage items for sale at the beverage station.
  • Promote sales of beverage items and charge amounts as indicated on the WCC Price List.
  • Receive and handle cash or tickets, following WCC cash handling procedures.
  • Follow all rules and regulations that apply to beverage operations and to WCC standards.
  • Enforce all applicable ABS liquor laws to include requesting identification from every guest purchasing alcohol.
  • Maintain proper sanitation of work area.
  • Report any guest concerns and/or complaints to the Beverage Captain or the Food and Beverage Manager.

Post-Event Duties

  • Verify and account for all cash and liquor inventory with Beverage Captain or Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Break down beverage stations(s) after each event.

Other Duties

  • Report to work in proper uniform according to scheduled time.
  • Adhere to strict grooming standards and policies as defined by WCC.
  • Follow proper safety practices in the work area.

  • Maintain the front and back of the house in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Provide guidance and support to the temporary staff assigned to an event.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities    

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. May receive work direction and assignments from Beverage Captain.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience  

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a bar operations environment providing direct customer service with guests.
  • Working knowledge of cash register and cash handling procedures.
  • Working knowledge of bar operations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well with other team members.
  • Strong guest services skills.
  • Ability to take directions effectively, with attention to details.
  • Proficiency in math to accurately count and handle money.
  • Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks.

Other Qualifications 

  • Irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Serv Safe Alcohol Certification and RASP Certification within 6 months of employment.
