Job Summary

Manager of Software Development and Engineering will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying in-house security solutions. This role sits within the SPIDER team, which is a cybersecurity and privacy R&D team within Comcast Cybersecurity. As part of that team, this role will scale, optimize, and manage new use cases for our existing security products. This will include working with stakeholders to identify and prioritize new features for development and provide maintenance for existing ones. The Manager will also provide technical leadership and oversight for a team of hands-on developers, engineers, and testers. The role will also require developing formalized standards and performance metrics for the team.

Comcast’s SPIDER team is looking to hire a Manager of Software Development and Engineering. This person should be comfortable with both technical leadership and people management. They should be a self-motivated individual who is interested in building the next generation of security solutions, with an eye toward scaling, optimization, and vertical integration. This role’s core responsibilities are to manage a team of developers and work with the research arm of the team to take research proofs of concepts and operationalize for internal stakeholders. This will include requirement’s gathering, storyboarding, documentation, planning and developer resource allocation, code reviews, architecture design, as well as developing + tracking performance metrics. 

An ideal candidate will help individual developers grow both from a technical and a professional perspective. They will identify opportunities for creating efficiencies, for new features, and quick wins. They will work with stakeholders to identify pain points and develop solutions. They will also develop and manage playbooks for customer support, maintenance, and change management.

Core Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction on all engagements.
  • Collect and document business requirements and convert them to technical requirements and user stories for developers.
  • Maintain a product storyboard, design a modular timeline, assign tasks and deadlines.
  • Review technical architecture designs and institute a code review process.
  • Ensure that the product meets the appropriate performance, resilience, and scaling criteria.
  • Ensure alignment between relevant stakeholders, including those internal to the SPIDER team and those outside
  • Continuously monitor customer feedback and identify/prioritize opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and track metrics for program and individual evaluation.
  • Manage developers as a people manager, identify areas of growth, and help them mature professionally.
  • Prepare presentations and talks for internal communication and visibility.
  • Maintain visibility into competing solutions to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Adopt and implement good coding practices and follow Comcast’s secure development lifecycle.
  • Run daily scrum calls and technical challenge calls to continuously track individual tasks and address and blockers.
  • Build and maintain operational roadmaps for new features.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field,
  • 7+ years' hands on experience with software development,
  • 2+ years managing a team,
  • 3+ years of experience in building architectures, scaling existing solutions, adopting secure design and development practices,
  • 5+ years of hands-on programming experience in Python,
  • Expertise in Software Development Lifecycle (Agile Preferred),
  • Integration expertise: Restful APIs, Third Party libraries,
  • Experience in Cloud Platforms (Databricks + AWS strongly preferred),
  • Experienced user of Git or other Version Control,
  • Experience in production support,
  • Experience with scaling technical team management with peer code reviews, creating intake processes, developing and maintaining product storyboards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Data Engineering (Spark, Pandas),
  • Experience with Front End Frameworks (preferred Angular),
  • Experience with technical documentation,
  • Experience in devops,
  • Experience in scripting.
