Coinbase stores a large amount of digital currency making us a top tier target on the internet. Security is core to our mission and has been a key competitive differentiator for us as we scale. Security Platform Engineering ( SPE ) team is building platform capabilities for a variety of security use cases critical for security, compliance and privacy at Coinbase. Some of the key functional areas we are developing capabilities for are secrets and key management, identity access and management, onchain security, policy and risk management, vulnerabilities management enabling our product, compliance, security and services teams to protect Coinbase and our customers.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Build and manage engineering teams, to guide the development of security platform capabilities.
  • Provide technical structure to teams and work closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps.
  • Manage individual projects, priorities, deadlines and deliverables with your technical and strategic leadership.
  • Implement multi-year strategy for security platform engineering functions with the technical leadership on your team.
  • Coach your direct reports to have a positive impact on the organization and support their career growth.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
  • Contribute to owning and delivering processes to drive engineering quality, excellence and meet our engineering SLAs.
  • Work with our talent organization to source and hire amazing engineers who will expand the Coinbase culture and product.
  • Be a thoughtful technical voice and support your team in making diligent architectural decisions.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 8+ years of hands-on development experience with developing and architecting large-scale, distributed, high-traffic platforms and implementing scalable, robust services and applications in the real world.
  • 4+ years of people management experience leading a team of 5 or more full time employees.
  • Ability to partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders across various teams within a large organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong agile mindset, able to orchestrate technical resources in a resource challenged environment.
  • You know what high quality code — and software engineering processes — look like and know how to foster an environment that creates them.
  • Passionate about high-quality code and effective software engineering processes, landing changes to improve them.
  • You can be hands-on when needed – whether that’s writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, or triaging/troubleshooting bugs.
  • An execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.

Nice to haves:

  • Prior experience in building capabilities for security use cases, leading security engineering teams.
  • Proven experience landing large initiatives, making an impact across the company that changed the status quo.
  • You’ve experienced architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$211,650$249,000 USD
