About the Role:

Reporting to the Insurance Accounting Senior Manager, the Accounting Analyst manages the end-to-end receivables lifecycle for assigned brokers. This role bridges analytical accounting and operations, focusing on premium collections, broker statement reconciliation, and cash application. You will partner with Underwriting and Operations to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure the accuracy of financial data.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivables, Premium Accounting & Cash Collections:

  • Manage the collection of outstanding Premium Receivables, ensuring proactive follow-up with brokers on aged balances.

  • Perform detailed reconciliation of broker statements against internal records to identify, analyze, and resolve billing discrepancies.

  • Effectively escalate complex Premium Accounting findings and discrepancies to the appropriate business units for resolution.

  • Monitor and execute timely payment application, ensuring unapplied cash balances are minimized and kept within acceptable thresholds.

  • Collaborate regularly with Underwriting and Operations departments to resolve billing, booking, and collection issues preventing payment.

  • Research and resolve customer A/R issues, providing high-quality service to external brokers and internal stakeholders.

Operational & Ad Hoc Support:

  • Provide administrative support by maintaining accurate financial records and producing both standard and customized aging reports for management review.

  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and providing documentation in conjunction with general ledger controls.

  • Maintain strict compliance with various external regulatory requirements and internal accounting policies.

  • Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new systems and other accounting functions as assigned.

Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • Education: Completion of a College or University Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field; current enrollment in a CPA program is considered an asset.

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in an Accounts Receivable or Accounting role. Specific experience in an insurance premium accounting environment is preferred.

  • Technical Skills: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with insurance accounting systems and general ledger software is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Accuracy: High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly regarding data entry and reconciliation.

  • Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with brokers and internal departments.

The base salary range for this position is CAD 70,000 - CAD 80,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
