Principal Product Manager, Vector & Hybrid Search

As a Principal Product Manager, you will drive innovation in Vector Search, full text search and GenAI applications.
Your Responsibilities:
- Define and execute the product roadmap for Couchbase's vector search, full text search and GenAI capabilities. Focus on advancing vector data types, search functionality, and optimizing the query engine for complex data processing needs across use-cases like recommendation systems, personalization, etc.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify the largest opportunities in the AI/ML space for Couchbase in vector search and adjacent technologies, staying ahead of trends in vector databases, real-time insights, and AI-driven applications.
- Collaborate with engineering, data science, and cloud infrastructure teams to guide product development from concept to launch, ensuring performance, scalability, and differentiation in the market.
- Coordinate with marketing and sales teams to develop go-to-market strategies, enabling data scientists, developers, and ML engineers to leverage Couchbase for advanced analytics and real-time search.
- Engage with customers to understand their challenges, demonstrating customer obsession and a bias for action by incorporating feedback to ensure Couchbase’s features meet real-world business needs.
Your Qualifications:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related field (advanced degrees are a plus).
- 8+ years of proven experience in product management with a focus on AI/ML, data science, search technologies, or query engines in database systems.
- Deep understanding of search technologies, particularly Full Text Search (FTS), Vector Search, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Familiarity with search engines like Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr, as well as database-driven search solutions.
- Strong knowledge of performance optimization for large-scale search systems, including indexing, query performance, relevance tuning, and scalability.
- Leadership and communication skills to drive cross-functional teams, collaborate with external partners, and influence internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to think from first principles, with strong written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to learn rapidly, adapt to new information, and collaborate effectively with experts.
- A self-starter attitude with a proven track record of independently driving initiatives in fast-paced and evolving environments.
Bonus Points for:
- Knowledge of Couchbase/NoSQL systems.
- Add Database experience SQL or NoSQL particularly with Search, Indexing and Query
- You have built and shipped Vector Search / Embeddings/RAG and Gen AI technologies in the past as a Product Manager or an Engineer.
- Experience working with cloud providers like AWS, GCP, and Azure.
