Job Summary

  • Wellstar Cobb in Austell, Georgia is seeking a PRN Registered CT Technologist.
  • This position will work as needed hours to meet patient care needs.
  • Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
  • Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative.
  • Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care by performing all exams per department procedures.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.
  • Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
  • Able to independently perform job functions.
  • Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Equipment

  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique to ensure the patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly to supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment according to infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.

Patient Care

  • Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.
  • Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
  • Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast medias safely.
  • Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate right/left markers.
  • Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains crash cart and life‑support equipment.
  • Assists technologists in all modalities when needed.
  • Observes patient condition and evaluates the need for physician intervention.
  • Verifies correct identity of patient using two unique identifiers per policy.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort; maintains dignity throughout the exam/procedure.
  • Demonstrates competence in the appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organizes schedule, time and priorities to ensure required activities are accomplished on time.
  • Follows physicians’ instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with power injector operation.
  • Uses critical thinking skills.
  • Dialogs with patient/family.
  • Asks clarifying questions.
  • Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time‑Out process when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates and understands pre‑ and post‑procedural care.
  • Preps the patient for procedures.
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
  • Maintains competency with venipuncture.

Education and Communication

  • Clearly explains the purpose and nature of exams using AIDET to minimize anxiety and increase cooperation.
  • Ensures patient questions, concerns or contraindications are addressed; notifies physician when unresolved.
  • Participates in orientation and training of department employees.
  • Provides preparatory instruction and procedural explanations.
  • Documentation is concise, legible and uses precise terminology.
  • Reads email each scheduled workday and follows through on assignments.
  • Completes mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education without prompting.

Quality Control

  • Consistently produces acceptable images based on radiologist feedback and quality audits.
  • Ensures equipment is fully operational before each use by checking calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed.
  • Prints and scans after‑hours teleradiography studies into PACS when applicable.
  • Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
  • Prints the teleradiography log sheet and submits it to the Radiologist when applicable.

Operations

  • Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
  • Transports, positions and assists patients on and off the procedure table.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day of service.
  • Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
  • Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others when requested and when time allows.
  • Performs clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and service quality.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities and promptly reports issues or potential problems.
  • Maintains individual productivity equal to coworkers.
  • Operates all workstations associated with the CT department.
  • Pushes and retrieves images from the CT console to PACS.
  • Maintains Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards.
  • Takes call when necessary.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Radiology Technology — Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated)

  • ARRT Radiography — Required
  • ARRT Computed Tomography — Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association — Required

Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology — Required
  • Less than 1 year experience in CT — Preferred

  • Must understand anatomy and pathology and how they affect procedure quality.
  • Competent to perform all ACR and manufacturer‑recommended Quality Control tests.
