Job Title: DB2 Database Administrator Job Type: [Full-time] Position Overview: The DB2 Database Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of DB2 databases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration and a deep understanding of DB2 technologies. This role involves ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of our database systems to support business operations. Key Responsibilities: • Database Installation and Configuration: o Install and configure DB2 database servers and clients. o Implement database instances, databases, and table spaces. • Database Maintenance: o Perform routine maintenance tasks, including database backups, recovery, and data integrity checks. o Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to DB2 software. • Performance Tuning: o Monitor and optimize database performance, including query optimization, indexing, and resource allocation. o Analyze and resolve performance issues to ensure efficient operation. • Security Management: o Implement and manage database security measures, including user access controls and data encryption. o Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory security requirements. • Troubleshooting and Support: o Provide technical support and troubleshooting for database-related issues. o Collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders to resolve complex problems. • Backup and Recovery: o Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies to protect data. o Test and validate backup procedures to ensure data recoverability. • Documentation and Reporting: o Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies. o Generate and analyze reports on database performance, usage, and security. • Capacity Planning: o Monitor database growth and usage trends. o Plan for future database capacity requirements and scalability. • Compliance and Best Practices: o Ensure databases adhere to industry best practices and organizational standards. o Stay current with emerging DB2 technologies and industry trends. Qualifications: • Education: o Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered. • Experience: o Minimum 5+ years of experience as a DB2 Database Administrator or similar role. o Hands-on experience with DB2 for [z/OS/Linux/Unix/Windows], including version [specific versions if applicable]. • Skills: o Proficiency in DB2 installation, configuration, and administration. o Strong understanding of database performance tuning and optimization. o Experience with SQL and database query optimization. o Knowledge of backup and recovery techniques. o Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python) for automation. o Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. o Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Certifications: o Relevant DB2 certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2) are a plus. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with other database management systems (e.g., Informix, Oracle, SQL Server). • Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions. • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
