Job Title – Principal Database Administrator

The Purpose of This Role

Principal Site reliability engineer is a technical leader responsible for activities related to the Database engineering, stability & reliability of database systems. The tech lead, is expected to engineer database patterns on cloud and come out with strategy for database observability, develop self-healing solutions to reduce toil and directs the day-to-day activities of Database Administrators and collaborates with application partners that enables operations and drives insights.

Principal database reliability engineer will join the existing team of experienced DBA’s who are responsible for the support of a number of databases, primarily on Mainframe DB2 , Oracle (on-prem and cloud), Exadata appliance and also should be flexible to support other flavors of DBMS like, Snowflake, Aerospike, DynamoDB, Sybase, SQL Server,CockroachDB and Cassandra

Principal engineer will be responsible for Database engineering & administration of FBT Distributed databases systems.

• Lead the Database COE team to identify and build out necessary long-term strategy for observability and Stability of distributed database platform.

• Define SLI and SLO at database level in line with FI product strategy

• The DBA Leader will be responsible for operational excellence of the daily maintenance, monitoring, performance analysis, trouble shooting, problem resolution, required for database environment, on premises as well as on cloud (AWS)

• Guide off-shore Engineers with delivery, maintenance activities, Production support, replication and performance tuning.

• Ability to work in multiple types of databases like Snowflake, SQL Server, Postgres, MariaDB will be added advantage

• Participate in regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements.

• Training, managing and mentoring junior and offshore DBA team members.

• Develop database documentation and cookbook standards such as standard operating procedures and knowledge transfer documents, as well as provide clear instruction to DBA’s to provide such documentation

The Skills that are Key to this role

Technical / Behavioral

• 10+ years’ experience as an Mainframe DB2 and Oracle Database engineer at a senior level

• Experienced in large database implementation like Exadata and Snowflake

• Hands-on experience on AWS & Azure IaaS and DaaS, Database cloud services

• Hands-on experience on monitoring tools like Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana and Kibana

• Hands-on experience on uDeploy, infrastructure as a code tools and Terraform

• Hands-on experience on Goldengate replication

• Hands-on experience on Cloud pipeline Automation

• Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle load utilities

• Capable of leading and supporting a team through multiple independent projects simultaneously

• Ability to create and maintain positive and professional business relationships

• Guide DBA’s through proven diagnostic problem solving and solution development capabilities

• Must have in-depth knowledge of DBA best practices

• Strong Database & Performance Tuning Knowledge

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Well organized with good time management skills.

• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and client focus

• Experience in Agile Project Management Methodology would be a plus

• Administer databases through full application life cycle, development, testing, and production.

• Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Goldengate replication, database & SQL tuning, memory usage, data access, data manipulation, SQL, and physical storage.

• Must exhibit good time management skills, independent decision-making capability; focus on customer service

The Skills that are Good To Have for this role

• Knowledge on Azure database services would be a big plus

• Knowledge of Institutional brokerage domain would be plus.
