We are searching for the best talent for Business Unit Director (BUD), Immunology to be in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. This role provides strategic leadership to a team of Sales and Marketing Managers, ensuring strong execution of Johnson & Johnson Innovation Medicine strategies across hospital systems, primary care, and specialty providers.
The BUD plays a critical role in co‑creating strategy with U.S. brand teams, translating enterprise and franchise priorities into locally relevant, high‑impact solutions. Through active partnership, the BUD ensures that Puerto Rico market insights meaningfully inform U.S. brand strategy, while national direction is effectively adapted and executed locally. The role balances short‑term performance with long‑term value creation, builds high‑performing and diverse teams, and leverages data, analytics, and digital tools to optimize decision‑making and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Business Strategy & Regional Leadership
Develops and executes a fully aligned regional business strategy reflecting market dynamics, competitive landscape, and customer needs, while ensuring full compliance with healthcare regulations.
Delivers sales growth, market share, and volume objectives through disciplined planning, prioritization, and resource deployment.
Drives operational excellence by embedding best practices, continuous improvement, and effective problem‑solving across the region.
Applies data, analytics, and digital capabilities to improve forecasting, performance tracking, territory planning, and execution quality.
Makes decisions with a long‑term enterprise mindset, balancing near‑term performance with sustainable growth.
People Leadership & Talent Development
Recruits, develops, and retains high‑performing, diverse sales and marketing leaders aligned to company values and leadership expectations.
Creates a culture of accountability, inclusion, coaching, and continuous development.
Builds strong succession pipelines and actively supports individual development plans and career progression.
Maintains visible, authentic engagement with the field organization and broader enterprise.
Customer Engagement & Cross‑Functional Partnership
Builds and sustains trusted partnerships with key customers, health systems, and stakeholders across the Puerto Rico healthcare ecosystem.
Collaborates closely with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Policy & Advocacy, PECS, and Strategic Customer Groups to deliver a seamless, compliant, and differentiated customer experience.
Partners with U.S. brand teams to co‑create and execute strategies, ensuring strong alignment between national priorities and local market realities.
Coordinates selling and engagement efforts across accounts to maximize impact, reduce redundancy, and elevate customer value.
Represents the organization with credibility and professionalism in external forums, professional associations, and policy‑relevant engagements.
Compliance, Ethics & Risk Management
Serves as a role model for ethical leadership, ensuring full compliance with healthcare laws, regulations, and Johnson & Johnson policies.
Promotes a culture of patient safety, integrity, and compliance across all customer and internal interactions.
Identifies, escalates, and mitigates risks appropriately, ensuring corrective actions are implemented when required.

Direct: Sales and Marketing Managers
Indirect: Field Sales Representatives, Sales and Marketing Coordinator
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree or MBA preferred
Experience
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in sales, sales leadership, marketing, or account management within pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, or healthcare industries required
Demonstrated success leading sales teams and complex markets with consistent delivery of results
Minimum 3 years of people management experience strongly preferred
Proven ability to lead and influence across matrixed organizations and multiple commercial functions
Therapeutic area experience preferred
Strong understanding of the Puerto Rico and/or U.S. healthcare environment, including key stakeholders, access dynamics, and policy considerations
Additional Requirements
This role may require up to 15% travel
Valid PR driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with company standards
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk frequently; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs
