Job Summary

*In order to apply for this position, you must have completed the 2024 Monument Health Student Nurse Extern program.*

The Student Nurse Fellow is a senior nursing student working under the direct supervision of Registered Nurse preceptor, providing direct patient care. The Student Nurse Fellow will gain experience in performing clinical nursing assessment and skills through partnership with the South Dakota Board of Nursing. The Student Nurse Fellow will have the opportunity to increase critical thinking and organizational skills by providing nursing care to patients in varied departments at Monument Health. The Student Nurse Fellowship experience allows the student to further develop the art and science of nursing practice, collaborating with other healthcare professionals.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • By the end of the Student Nurse Fellowship, the student will:

  • Consistently apply the nursing process in delivering patient care with increased confidence and competence in a range of nursing skills.

  • Actively seek feedback from RN preceptor regarding assessment, care planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of patient care.

  • Demonstrate enhanced communication skills to work effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Assist the preceptor in performing selected procedures and treatments.

  • Participate in educational pursuits and activities that promote understanding of professional practice.

  • Involve patients and caretakers in the plan of care appropriately.

  • Other duties as assigned.
