Job Description

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for performing credit and collections activities across the North America Operations while coordinating accounts receivable activities within their portfolio including identification and execution of targeted account collection activities along with the results of planned actions. The Accounts Receivable Specialist works closely with the AR team along with the company’s operations (billing) teams and operational leaders.  

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Communicates with clients or customers by mail, e-mail or telephone as outlined by individual and company contact targets.
  • Maintains accurate, current account records and documentation within the system. 
  • Develops strategies to maximize collection activities. Takes all appropriate actions to obtain payments and minimize bad debt expense. 
  • Acts as liaison between the client, business operations (billing) teams, and operational leaders on open accounts. 
  • Assesses probability of collectability for individual receivables based on historical trends and knowledge of customer base. 
  • Researches and resolves overpayments, short payments, duplicate payments, and other discrepancies. Identifies and collates accounts for customer write-offs. 
  • Makes recommendations to improve the quality of processes, procedures, and department results. 
  • Participates in special projects and supports the goals of the department. 
  • Participates in ongoing education, training, and development efforts to maintain and enhance skills as assigned or approved. 
  • Participates in cross functional departmental support to assist with coverage during absences and vacations.
  • Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities/Experience: 

  • 4+ years of collection experience. 
  • Basic understanding of collection principles and techniques. 
  • Basic mathematical skills. 
  • Fundamental finance and accounting skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy, to execute tasks and meet deadlines. Committed to being an effective and collaborative team member
  • Sound written and oral communication skills, problem-solving, influencing, and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with skill in Excel functions 
  • Independent judgement/ decision making 
  • Champion of continuous improvement. 
  • Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities. 
  • Willing to embrace change. 

Preferred Skills/Abilities/Experience:

  • Great Plains experience preferred. 
  • Project management skills to lead process improvement activities including automation. 

Education:

  • Associates degree in Accounting or Business; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business - preferred.
