About the Role

We are expanding our Store Design & Experience team and seeking an early-career Civil-focused CAD Industry Specialist to support the development of Concept Site Plans (CSPs) for Circle K projects nationwide. This role bridges civil engineering principles, regulatory research, and CAD expertise to deliver accurate, feasible, and brand‑aligned site layouts.

This position can be located in our San Antonio, TX or Charlotte, NC office.

Key Responsibilities

Site Planning, Drafting & Civil Layout

  • Create detailed Concept Site Plans (CSPs) in AutoCAD, incorporating civil layout fundamentals, grading feasibility, drainage concepts, utility tie‑ins, and circulation paths.
  • Prepare preliminary grading diagrams, rough‑grading concepts, and drainage flow paths to ensure site feasibility.
  • Draft plan views, profiles, topographic representations, and conceptual utility layouts as needed.
  • Maintain and update CAD files throughout design iterations and project changes.
  • Maintain internal Civil CSP template and files with regular updates.

Regulatory Research & Compliance

  • Research AHJ requirements, zoning codes, setbacks, easements, right‑of‑way restrictions, and environmental constraints.
  • Ensure all site plans adhere to local, state, and federal engineering/drafting standards.

Technical Feasibility & Civil Engineering Support

  • Review survey data, aerials, topographic maps, and available civil drawings to validate site viability.
  • Perform basic quantity checks, evaluate slope impacts, and identify potential grading or drainage conflicts.
  • Support conceptual engineering including grading strategies, stormwater considerations, and truck circulation evaluations.
  • Experience preparing exhibits, feasibility studies, or entitlement packages.
  • Familiarity with permitting workflows and submittal standards.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with Real Estate, Design, Construction, Engineering, Architecture, and external civil consultants to align design requirements and resolve conflicts.
  • Participate in project review meetings; present plan changes and incorporate feedback from stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines in a high‑volume workflow.
  • Clear communication skills for cross‑department collaboration.

Quality Control & Documentation

  • Review drawing sets for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards before submission.
  • Maintain organized documentation, version tracking, and drawing records across multiple fast‑moving projects.
  • Address redlines from internal reviewers and municipal agencies as needed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Experience

  • 1–3 years in civil site design, CAD drafting, engineering support, or planning roles.
  • Experience with retail, commercial, or national brand development programs preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Civil 3D strongly preferred given industry standards for grading, surfaces, profiles, and utility layout work.
  • Ability to interpret surveys, topographic data, and engineering documents.
  • Familiarity with GIS layers, mapping tools, and plat research.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office.

Candidate Attributes

  • Proactive problem-solver with the ability to spot grading, circulation, or code‑related design conflicts early.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving detailed redline feedback.
