Job Description:

Biomedical Technician Level I, II, III (if applicable) positions available based on candidate experience/certifications.

General Description: Performs basic maintenance and repair on clinical medical equipment. Responds to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform repair/planned maintenance (PM) on progressively complex clinical/biomedical equipment, and drives Service Excellence.

  • Learns unfamiliar devices and learns to use specialized test equipment.
  • Performs planned maintenance (PM), safety and environmental inspections, and maintains effective interdepartmental relations. Provides team members with daily updates on PM completion and follow-up plans.
  • Cross-trains to develop field-specific troubleshooting skills; evaluates simple to moderately complex clinical/biomedical equipment issues and implements appropriate repairs.  Learns to prioritize repairs based on service line and acuity; complete work on first-in/first-out basis.
  • Follows appropriate policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and completes necessary documentation.
  • Establishes and engages in proactive daily communications with customer departments, to ensure proper follow-up, leading to effective resolutions and satisfaction.
  • Assists higher-skilled technicians on basic and more complex repairs and resolutions.
  • Supports operations in all locations.
  • Shares on-call/pager responsibility.
  • Documents all repair actions and submit reports/summaries accordingly.
  • Ensures proper care of spares, tools and test equipment, and ensure calibration.
  • Assists in maintaining approved parts inventory.
  • Assists in managing vendors’ service delivery processes.
  • Enhances and maintains technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction with more advanced team members.
  • Meets or exceeds The Joint Commission, State Department of Health and Human Services, Occupational Health and Safety, and/or all other applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, CAP, etc.)
  • Aware of and complies with quality policies, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
  • Completes all planned quality and compliance training within the defined deadlines.
  • Identifies and reports all quality or compliance concerns immediately.
  • Ensures all work orders, vendor service reports, time and expense reports, PM activities, purchase orders, and other duties are documented in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assists in ensuring all test equipment is tracked and 100% calibrated on time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  None required.

Experience: None required.  2+ years of experience servicing electronic or mechanical equipment, control systems, or performing technical quality control testing preferred..

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:  None required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to customer representatives in an easy-to-understand manner. Focus on efficiency, adoption or creation of standard work practices, LEAN.
  • Experience performing effective repair and planned maintenance on basic biomedical or electronic equipment, or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical devices, and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience interfacing with both internal and external team members as part of a solution-based service process.
  • Change agent and process oriented.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good team relations.
  • Proficiency in completing electronic documentation using technological tools (e.g., IPad, IPhone) and familiar with standard computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office suite).
  • Operate with efficiency and sense of urgency.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing environments.
  • Ability to deliver results in a changing environment, ability to multitask, strategize, and prioritize.
