A Day in Your Life at MKS / Atotech

As a UI/UX Design Intern at MKS / Atotech, you will support the design and development of intuitive, user-centered digital experiences for our Industrial Digital Solutions portfolio. During your 1‑year internship, you will contribute to the expansion of our Digital Factory Suite (DFS), including cloud-based applications such as predictive maintenance solutions that help customers anticipate equipment wear, detect abnormal situations, and improve product quality.

You will work closely with product managers, software engineers, senior UI/UX designers, and QA teams, gaining hands-on experience in an industrial software environment. You will report to the Digital Product / Engineering Manager.

You Will Make an Impact By

  • Supporting user research activities, including analysis of user needs, workflows, and behaviors.
  • Assisting in the creation of user personas, user flows, journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Contributing to the design of intuitive and visually consistent user interfaces for web and cloud-based applications.
  • Collaborating with product managers and stakeholders to help define and document user-centered use cases.
  • Translating use cases into initial user stories and acceptance criteria under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Supporting collaboration with developers to ensure design feasibility and smooth implementation.
  • Working with QA teams during usability testing phases and helping analyze feedback for design improvements.
  • Applying and contributing to the design system, ensuring consistency across digital products.
  • Integrating feedback from users, designers, and stakeholders into design iterations.
  • Staying up to date with UI/UX trends, tools, and best practices, particularly in enterprise and industrial software.

Skills You Are Developing / Bringing

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in UI/UX Design, Digital Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in user-centered design and usability principles.
  • Ability to communicate design ideas clearly, both visually and verbally.
  • Curious, proactive, and eager to learn in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to iterate on designs based on feedback.
  • Ability to work in English, both written and verbal.

Required Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with UI/UX design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar.
  • Basic understanding of design systems (e.g., Material Design or equivalent).
  • Ability to create wireframes and simple prototypes.
  • Basic understanding of software development workflows and collaboration with engineering teams.

Nice to Have

  • First hands-on experience (academic projects, internships, or personal projects) in UI/UX design.
  • Exposure to web or cloud-based applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile / Scrum environments.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, or front-end concepts.
