About the role:

The Assistant VP, Data Engineering will join the AIG Data Office, responsible for functional enhancements and Subject Matter Expert support for the Data Management applications portfolio, for AIG’s General Insurance business.  The Data Management portfolio lead will work collaboratively with business, product owners and vendor partners to ensure successful delivery of business priorities.  The ideal candidate can balance efforts across internal and external stakeholders as well as ensure that roadmaps and plans are in place to deliver on the long-term direction.  This is a strategic role related to management of critical AIG functions that include Firmographics hub, external vendor data management,  producer data management, and reference data management. This includes leading technical resources, partnering with application CIOs and data management team. 

What you need to know:

The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Responsible for day-to-day leadership of AIG’s core account, producer, reference data, external vendor data management systems. This includes working with technical resources, application CIOs, underwriting partners and external parties and vendors.
  • Lead a team of outsourced / contract resources to delivery on business demand.
  • Drive design and decisions across multiple programs, working closely with and managing requests from various business stakeholders.
  • Lead support and enhancement for strategic system interfaces like AIG’s Master Data Management, Reference Data Management, Standard Commercial Underwriting Platform, Palantir applications, Submissions Reservation and KPI metrics.
  • Develop roadmap for sunset and decommission of legacy systems as well as identify opportunities to consolidate processes across legacy systems.
  • Implement agile workflow across all the applications to improve visibility of throughput and delivery to stakeholders
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for AIG and AIG Stakeholders across the data management portfolio.
  • Responsible for fostering and maintenance of relationships with business and IT partners.
  • Responsible for ensuring all aspects of audit requests are met.
  • Ensure that all Data applications adhere to AIG security policies

Key Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Application management, data management and information handling across data applications, possessing deep understanding of SDLC.
  • Demonstrated ability to Build and maintain strong working relations with key leaders in the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors and outsourced vendor teams across multiple geographies.
  • Experience leading data integration initiatives in large, complex data environments
  • Effective communication skills and ability to negotiate outcomes that balance business speed to market with appropriate controls and governance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and with changing priorities.
  • Ability to work under challenging production situations fulfilling tight deadlines.
  • Experience leading teams in an Agile development and delivery.
  • Ability to influence change and drive results.  Must be a self-motivated driver to identify issues and resolve them quickly.

Ideal Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in information management / data integration with demonstrated leadership ability
  • Experience leading a completely remote team for all activities across multiple, complex projects and BAU
  • Experience in developing and operationalizing data management processes
  • Working knowledge of COBOL and DB2 on IBM mainframe, extensive SQL skills
  • Understanding of technical architecture and application systems design and integration in a large heterogeneous enterprise environment
  • Leverages expert problem-solving skills and techniques.
