What you will do:

The Senior Director, Equipment Strategy and Programs provides strategic leadership for the Equipment North America business, shaping how Johnson Controls delivers differentiated, system-level HVAC solutions to the market. This role is responsible for defining and executing equipment strategy, go-to-market programs, and enablement initiatives that drive profitable growth, improve ease of doing business, and strengthen competitive positioning. As a senior leader, this role serves as a thought leader for the equipment business, developing innovative system offerings that connect the full equipment portfolio into cohesive, application-driven solutions. The Senior Director partners closely with sales, product, service, operations, marketing, and external partners to influence early-stage design decisions, elevate Johnson Controls’ trusted advisor status, and translate strategy into scalable programs that accelerate market impact.

How you will do:

Strategy and Business Leadership

  • Define and lead the long-range equipment strategy aligned to enterprise growth, margin, and customer objectives.

  • Own go-to-market strategy for equipment offerings, including portfolio optimization, new product commercialization, and competitive positioning.

  • Partner with executive leadership to identify and resolve complex, cross-functional business challenges impacting growth and execution.

Thought Leadership and System Innovation

  • Establish and champion thought leadership through industry engagement, customer advisory councils, technical content, and participation in key market forums.

  • Lead the development of system-level offerings that integrate HVAC equipment, controls, service, and digital capabilities into application-specific solutions.

  • Drive creation of system and application guides that enable consulting engineers to confidently design and specify Johnson Controls solutions at the Basis of Design stage.

  • Translate market trends, customer needs, and emerging technologies into differentiated system strategies.

Program and Portfolio Management

  • Lead national equipment programs spanning pre-sales enablement, post-sales execution, agent productivity, tools, systems, and service linkage.

  • Establish program governance, prioritization, and performance metrics to ensure alignment with financial and operational targets.

  • Drive standardization of best practices, workflows, and value propositions across markets.

Sales Enablement and Channel Strategy

  • Serve as executive sponsor for pre-sales and post-sales enablement, including application guides, tools, training, and incentives.

  • Strengthen agent and channel effectiveness through productivity programs, onboarding strategies, and integrated tools and processes.

  • Support field leadership with strategic guidance that improves win rates, execution quality, and customer outcomes.

Partnerships and Ecosystem Development

  • Lead strategy for third-party equipment partnerships that expand system solutions and complement the core portfolio.

  • Oversee partner commercialization, integration, and alignment with sales, service, and operations teams.

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing national programs team.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Mentor future leaders and contribute to succession planning.

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field.

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in HVAC equipment, building systems, or related industrial markets.

  • Proven experience leading enterprise-level strategy, programs, and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC sales channels, including agent and direct models.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment across complex organizations.

Preferred

  • MBA or advanced business degree.

  • Experience with system-based solution development or vertical market strategies.

  • Background spanning sales, product management, operations, or service organizations.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $151,000-237,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
