RSM is looking for a Senior Manager to join our Accounting Standards Group (ASG), a component of the firm’s National Professional Standards Group (NPSG). This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about contributing to thought leadership, consulting on complex accounting and reporting matters, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the Firm’s interpretive accounting guidance and educational training courses, which may require collaborating with other members of the NPSG, audit, tax and consulting practices, to enable others to address existing and new accounting standards, emerging practice issues and Firm initiatives
  • Monitor and report on the standard-setting activities of the IASB and Canadian Accounting Standards Board within the individual’s areas of expertise including drafting of the Firm’s comment letters in response to proposed accounting standards updates
  • Lead or co-lead educational training courses on subject matters within the individual’s areas of expertise and participate in the Firm’s quarterly accounting update webcasts, as needed
  • Consult with engagement teams, alliance firms, members of the NPSG and industry technical leaders on complex accounting and financial reporting matters
  • Participate in external accounting groups or committees to discuss and/or gather information about new and emerging accounting issues.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce, business administration or comparable
  • Active CPA license
  • Minimum of 8 years of current or recent experience in a public accounting, financial reporting or technical accounting capacity
  • Broad working knowledge of IFRS
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in application of IFRS 9
  • Experienced in developing and/or editing technical accounting publications (such as whitepapers and accounting guides) and educational training courses
  • Excellent accounting research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and exhibit an exceptional client service attitude
  • Ability to respond and be adaptable to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation
    • Writing skills include attention to detail, command of grammar, punctuation and the ability to write about complex issues clearly and simply.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/consultations simultaneously
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • Willingness to develop new areas of subject matter expertise to address Firm and client needs
  • Commitment to continuous development and a passion for sharing new ideas
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the year for teaching and other training programs, client service support, team meetings, various projects and work streams of the ASG/NPSG and participation with professional organizations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep experience in multiple complex accounting areas, including such topics as complex financial liability and equity arrangements, financial assets and credit losses, debt modifications, income taxes, business combinations, leases, revenue recognition, earnings-per-share, share-based compensation, fair value measurements and accounting for subsidiaries/joint arrangements/associates.
  • Experience with public company accounting and financial reporting
  • Experience in a national accounting role at a public accounting firm
  • Knowledgeable of ASPE, ASNPO and/or PSAS.

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $97,000 - $165,000

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
