The Opportunity

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Product Design Manager to join our Core and Mobile Design team. This role will manage and inspire a team of product designers based in our Berlin hub and partner closely with cross-functional teams in Product, UX Research, Data Science, and Engineering to shape the future of AI-powered communication tools.

As Product Design Manager in our Berlin hub, you will play a critical role in leading a team of designers working on the next generation of core Grammarly experiences. In addition to leading the design team daily, you will build and foster a culture of creativity, craft excellence, trust, and continuous growth while maintaining a high level of quality through leading by example. You will work closely with the Head of Design for Core and Mobile to ensure strategic alignment with the broader design team and overall company strategy.

In this role, you will:

Leadership: Manage, empower, and grow a team of IC designers ranging from mid- to staff level.

  • Act as a design site lead for Berlin: You will be responsible for building and maintaining a strong and supportive design culture in our Berlin hub, inclusive of designers from other teams. You will also foster close relationships and connections with designers and design leadership in North America.
  • Be a strong cross-functional partner: You’ll build close partnerships with key stakeholders across engineering, product, and design. Drive cross-functional alignment and collaboration as part of a leadership team.
  • Lead by example: You’ll own and provide creation direction for key product surfaces, and contribute as a hands-on designer on high-impact opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in UX design, with a solid foundation in digital product design in fast-paced, iterative environments.
  • Experience managing and sustaining a high-performing design team.
  • Has expertise in advanced design methods and strong aesthetic sensibilities
  • Has a prototyping mindset, communicates ideas through interactive mocks or rough functional prototypes, and can mentor and teach other designers prototyping tools and methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex product requirements into a compelling vision that influences senior leadership
  • Proven experience in taking products from initial concept to launch
  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is inspired by our MOVE principles: move fast and learn faster; obsess about creating customer value; value impact over activity; and embrace healthy disagreement rooted in trust.

Support for you, professionally and personally

  • Professional growth: We believe that autonomy and trust are key to empowering our team members to do their best, most innovative work in a way that aligns with their interests, talents, and well-being. We also support professional development and advancement with training, coaching, and regular feedback.
  • A connected team: Grammarly builds a product that helps people connect, and we apply this mindset to our own team. Our remote-first hybrid model enables a highly collaborative culture supported by our EAGER (ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable) values. We work to foster belonging among team members in a variety of ways. This includes our employee resource groups, Grammarly Circles, which promote connection among those with shared identities including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ team members, women, and parents. We also celebrate our colleagues and accomplishments with global, local, and team-specific programs.
  • Comprehensive benefits for candidates based in Germany: Grammarly offers all team members competitive pay along with a benefits package encompassing life care (including mental health care and risk benefits) and ample and defined time off. We also offer support to set up a home office, wellness and pet care stipends, learning and development opportunities, and more.
