Working with financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, retailers and other corporations of various sizes, the Actuarial Services consulting practice provides economic and financial value optimization for clients and their customers through the use of risk management and insurance techniques. The group provides strategic support to their clients, and consistently strives to find innovative solutions. 

 

The Actuarial Services consulting practice is seeking an actuarial candidate to join a group of non-traditional consultants as Associate, to support client needs and the overall growth of the practice. 

 

Your primary responsibilities will include:

 

Core Actuarial Functions (70%)

  • Reviewing financial/accounting statements
  • Conducting statutory actuarial liability valuations
  • Drafting valuation letters and reports
  • Gathering and reconciling client data, update and run stochastic models
  • Performing data analytics tasks in SQL, MS-Access and/or analytics tools
  • Supporting non-traditional actuarial valuations
  • Performing actuarial model governance and controls tasks/reviews

 

Client Consulting Support (10%)

  • Developing forecasts and business cases
  • Preparing client letters and presentations
  • Maintaining and analyzing client databases

 

Market Research & New Business Support (10%)

  • Performing market research and assisting with development of new business
  • Developing industry and insurance product benchmarking reports
  • Attending meetings with potential new clients, as needed 

 

Administration (10%)

  • Maintaining billable hours
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation of work 

 

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar
  • Relevant work experience in actuarial consulting or at an insurance company an asset
  • Actively working towards FSA/FCAS designation
  • Previous work experience with, and strong knowledge of, AXIS, SQL, Visual Basic and/or R considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • French language skills, both verbal and written, considered an asset, but not mandatory for this position
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Client-service driven and confident in his/her abilities and judgment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and attain deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Solutions-oriented with keen attention to detail and analytical ability
  • Self-motivated, accountable and able to work with minimal direction and/or supervision
  • Able to work as an integral part of a team and share his/her unique strengths in a collaborative manner to achieve common goals
  • Keen to understand and learn non-traditional concepts and practices as well as the awareness and understanding of non-actuarial points of view

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $60,720 - $72,450

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
