The Company
PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.
We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.
We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards. Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.
Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
Our Consumer Portfolio Growth team sits at the intersection of data science and commercial strategy. We focus on understanding how consumers engage across PayPal’s full product suite — spanning PayPal P2P, Checkout, Credit, Debit, and more — and identifying where the greatest untapped growth opportunities lie.
The team drives business outcomes through advanced analytics, customer segmentation, funnel analysis, experimentation, and causal inference. We are a close-knit group of intellectually curious, technically rigorous data scientists who take pride in delivering clear narratives to senior leadership and measurable impact to the business.
In this role, you will help shape the analytical agenda for key areas of PayPal’s consumer business, supporting growth, engagement, retention, and monetization initiatives across the portfolio. Beyond delivering high-quality analytics, you will help define analytical priorities, develop scalable measurement frameworks, influence business strategy, and contribute to the development of analytical best practices across the broader organization. Your work will directly support product, commercial, and investment decisions across PayPal’s consumer ecosystem.
Lead advanced deep-dive analyses that go beyond surface-level reporting to produce clear narratives on the business questions that matter most — diagnosing unexpected trends, challenging assumptions, and sizing new growth opportunities.
Apply sophisticated quantitative methods — including machine learning, causal inference, synthetic controls, difference-in-differences, and propensity score matching — to answer complex business questions with statistical rigor.
Build and evolve customer segmentation frameworks that reveal behaviorally distinct consumer cohorts and translate those insights into targeted growth strategies.
Analyze how consumer behavior evolves across PayPal’s product ecosystem, quantifying the impact of cross-product engagement on retention, monetization, and long-term customer value.
Monitor key consumer funnel metrics — activation, engagement, retention, and monetization — across products, segments, and geographies, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
Develop business cases and opportunity-sizing analyses to support strategic investments and growth initiatives.
Lead analytical initiatives from problem definition through recommendation, ensuring insights are actionable and aligned with business priorities.
Partner closely with Product, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, and Strategy teams to inform and influence decision-making.
Help define analytical priorities and measurement approaches for key areas of the consumer portfolio.
Contribute to the development of analytical standards and best practices across the Consumer Analytics organization.
Mentor and support junior team members, providing guidance on analytical approaches, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement.
Leverage AI-native tools such as Claude and Claude Code to accelerate analysis, automate recurring workflows, and scale insight delivery across the consumer growth domain.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and modelling capabilities with hands-on expertise in SQL, statistics, and data visualization.
Data-driven mindset with a degree in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, economics, statistics, or a related quantitative field, including leading complex analytical initiatives, influencing strategic business decisions, and mentoring others.
Expert fluency in SQL and Python, with experience analyzing large, multi-dimensional datasets and building scalable analytical solutions.
Demonstrated experience applying advanced data science methods including machine learning, causal inference, synthetic controls, or difference-in-differences in a business context.
Strong track record of translating analytical findings into clear recommendations that influence product strategy, business investments, and stakeholder decisions.
Experience defining analytical frameworks, measurement methodologies, or experimentation strategies used by multiple teams.
Experience mentoring junior team members or contributing to the development of analytical best practices.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders across product, commercial, and business functions.
Proficiency in visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau or Looker, with the ability to produce executive-ready presentations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to work proactively and independently in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities and ambiguous business problems.
The Traits to Exceed
You are a self-starter who enjoys solving complex business problems, navigating ambiguity, and continuously learning. As part of a broader Consumer Analytics organization, you will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, and Engineering, making strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills essential for success.
Overall, we believe this role could suit someone who:
Thrives in ambiguous environments and brings clarity to complex business challenges.
Is naturally curious and digs beyond the immediate question to uncover the insight that matters most.
Consistently turns analytical work into tangible business outcomes.
Combines analytical rigor with strong business judgment.
Influences decisions through data, credibility, and effective stakeholder engagement.
Enjoys helping others grow and contributes to a culture of learning, collaboration, and analytical excellence.
Embraces AI-native ways of working, using LLMs and agentic tools to improve productivity and scale impact.
Communicates complex ideas clearly and confidently to audiences at all levels of the organization.
