The Director of Security and principal facility security officer (FSO) leads the design, development, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive security program for Rhombus in support of its US Department of Defense (DoD) mission and commercial business initiatives. The Director of Security ensures compliance with security policies and regulations in a complex and dynamic organization while driving innovative solutions to navigate US domestic and international governmental requirements and bureaucracy.

This is a multidisciplinary security position requiring qualifications as a security professional and the ability to build and lead a security team. The role will interpret, develop guidance on, and implement controls related to all regulatory, governmental, and international security policies while being a principal advisor to the business and senior leadership. As the principal FSO, the Director of Security oversees all aspects of the National Industrial Security Program (NISPOM) protecting all classified, proprietary, and/or confidential information as well as company assets.

The Director of Security develops and supervises the implementation of all security policies and procedures including risk assessments, training, and programs.

Location: Palo Alto, CA or Washington, D.C.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serves as the principal certified Facility Security Officer (FSO), Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO), Insider Threat Program Senior Official (ITPSO)
  • Recruit, retain, and lead the security department and those functions with security responsibilities or duties
  • Supervises daily security activities and enforces compliance for government and across all DoD programs, contracts, and work sites
  • Develops scalable systems and processes to manage visit authorization requests (VAR), security indoctrination, debriefings, travel briefings, annual refresher trainings, SCI nominations
  • Manages, administers, and supervises all activities within security systems of record including but not limited to e-QIP, NISS, and DISS
  • Designs, manages, and leads the commercial corporate security program to ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, US national, and international requirements
  • Creates and updates all security plans, procedures, and instructions
  • Develops and executes security education and awareness programs
  • Administrates the corporate access control program including managing badges, access cards and internal visit requests, as required
  • Interprets and arbitrates all policy and processes around personnel, clearances, and our facilities
  • Leads preparation, coordination, and execution of all inspections and reviews whether self-administered or externally administered
  • Advises personnel of their reporting requirements, both personal/administrative and compliance/incident-related reports 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., Security, Risk, Compliance, Technology)
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • At least five years of prior relevant experience
  • Certifications as a FSO, CSSO, and ITPSO
  • Experience with facility clearance (FCL) requirements and security investigations

Strongly Preferred

  • Exceptional communication (oral and written) skills across governmental, academic, technical, and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working at a hyper-growth Defense technology or dual-use technology company
  • Experience establishing and maintaining clearance programs and Facility Clearance Licenses (FCL)
  • COMSEC Custodian certificate or experience
  • Industrial Security Professional (ISP) Certification
  • Experience developing and implanting OPSEC plans
  • Experience creating and conducting initial security briefings, debriefings, indoctrinations, pre/post foreign travel briefings and refresher briefings
  • Knowledge of Access Control and Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Experience with SCIF construction
