Wistia is looking for a Software Fullstack Product Engineer to join the Organize team! As a Software Engineer, you’ll work on Wistia’s platform, helping customers to better understand their audience through detailed analytics and third-party marketing integrations. The Organize team’s goal is to help customers scale with video by making Wistia the best video platform for businesses to use as their libraries, use cases, and teams grow. The team works extensively on flexing our existing data model for users, permissions, and content management as well as creating seamless user interfaces. You’ll work primarily in our modern tech stack with React, ES6, Typescript, GraphQL, and Ruby.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to understand the needs of the customer and deliver a simple and easy-to-use solution. You work with other engineers, along with design and product partners.
  • Work comfortably across front-end and back-end development. We mainly use Ruby on  Rails, GraphQL and React, but we are always looking for the best option. We do not expect engineers coming in to know our particular frameworks, just that they have the skills and desire to learn.
  • Balance technical considerations with product and business thinking. You aim for the best outcome for the customer, not for perfection.
  • Iteratively extend our systems at scale. We frequently change our data model to fit new use cases as our product offerings expand while maintaining existing usage.
  • Understand challenges of managing integrations with third parties and internal services, such as encapsulation and error resilience.

Qualifications

  • You have 5+ years' experience as a full-stack product engineer. You can work up and down the stack but your impact is bolstered by expertise in the back-end.
  • You know your fundamentals. Fads and frameworks come and go. We’re less worried that you know the Next Hot Thing™ than that you feel comfortable with the underlying data structures, algorithms, languages, and protocols that make web applications work.
  • You are capable of diving deep into legacy code or third-party documentation. You love solving obscure problems, have great debugging skills, and don’t mind managing some ambiguity.
  • You value a collaborative software development process. Whether through pair programming, a whiteboard session, or a casual conversation, collaboration helps the best ideas and practices to proliferate.
  • You write clean and understandable code. We write code for each other and for our future selves. Code that is clear and tested sets us up for speed, reliability, and a more enjoyable development experience.
  • You value simplicity. Blaise Pascal once wrote, "I'm sorry I wrote you such a long letter; I didn't have time to write a short one." Making things simple and elegant is deceptively difficult, but it’s worth the effort because the result is easier to understand and work with.

  • 401k with 3% company contribution, regardless of whether you contribute (Roth 401k available)
  • Fully paid healthcare, dental, and vision insurance (family plans included)
  • Pre-Tax FSA and Dependent Care Account
  • Flexible working hours – work at the times when you operate best, or set aside time for child and/or elderly care responsibilities during traditional “office hours”
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave for all new and expecting parents
  • Flexible PTO (pretty common for people to take 4+ weeks off throughout the year)
