This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security and human spaceflight.

This position is targeted to provide weekend and off shift support for engineering at the Huntsville, AL Engine production facility. Come join our diverse team in the Rocket City, where America’s first generation of space pioneering began with the development of the Saturn V rocket. In this role you will play a critical role in supporting the design, development, manufacturing, and testing rocket engines that will enable the next generation of human space travel and help to pave the way for future spaceflight as we develop America’s next-generation booster engine and advanced launch systems. Feel these engines come to life only minutes away from our production and engineering facility in Research Park where you can help design, fabricate, and assemble them!

You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of turbomachinery and rocket engine development and operation, and your efforts will help make our products better, faster, and stronger. This includes the opportunity to own turbomachinery hardware throughout the entire product lifecycle, taking a quick and efficient approach to designing and refining our turbomachinery systems to improve both capability and reliability for our launch vehicles and expanding human access to space.

You will need a proven track record of delivery, a solid understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, self-motivation, and a strong desire to design, build, test and learn about rocket engine turbopump components on a fast paced and growing team. Are you up to the challenge?

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 2+ years proven track record of turbomachinery component design, development and/or test support
  • Fundamental knowledge of turbomachinery component design and manufacturing
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, including proficiency in GD&T and assessing fits and clearances
  • Knowledge of hardware fabrication and quality control
  • Ability to effectively collaborate on multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • The support of weekend and off-shift schedule is expected for this role
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • Experience with turbomachinery specific to rocket engine applications
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids and oxygen compatibility
  • Hands on experience supporting a manufacturing shop floor, assembly area, or test facility
  • CAD and/or FEA modeling experience designing turbomachinery components
  • Proficiency in data analysis and post-processing to assess component health
  • Fundamental understanding of rocket turbopump architecture and fluid dynamics
