The Certified Nursing Assistant provides restorative nursing care for residents under the direction of the Nursing and/or Rehab staff to maximize and maintain the physical functioning and emotional wellness of the residents.

The Certified Nursing Assistant acts as an extender to Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist and/or Speech Therapists, performing nursing and/or rehab procedures and resident care tasks within scope of competence and in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification
Depending on setting, current CPR or BLS certification within 60 days of employment

Experience REQUIRED:
Previous experience providing activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs and caring for the physical and emotional needs of patients
Previous experience using a personnel computer, keyboard and mouse

Experience PREFERRED:
Previous work experience in a long-term care setting

Education/training REQUIRED:
Satisfactory completion of a nurse aide education program approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Education/training PREFERRED:

High School Diploma or the equivalent.

Independent action(s) required:
Provides direct hands-on treatment under the guidance and supervision of licensed nursing and/or rehab staff and in compliance with hospital policy of unlicensed staff.
Maintains a safe and resident friendly environment of care.
Resident equipment and materials are kept in good repair.
Maintains residents’ personal items and environment to optimize care and safety.
Reports to licensed nurse and/or rehab therapists any changes in condition or concerns regarding residents and seeks assistance as needed.
Participates in department and team projects as directed.
Performs duties within scope of certified nursing assistant role.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A

Additional position requirements:
Required to work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
Individual shift rotations and schedules will be determined by supervisor.

Physical - Lifting 20-50 lbs.
