The Corporate Affairs Director, located in Dun Laoghaire, reports to the Executive Director, Global Corporate Affairs, Operations with a dotted line to the Senior Director, ELMAC Corporate Affairs. This communications leader is a member of the Amgen Dun Laoghaire (ADL) Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Ireland Leadership Council. The Director is responsible for the overall corporate affairs strategy in Ireland, encompassing reputation and profiling (including the Amgen Irish Open), employee engagement, and corporate diplomacy across multiple sites to ensure alignment and coordination of messaging and stakeholder engagement across our Operations and Commercial presence to deliver our corporate goals. Additionally, the Director will be the point of contact and counsel for Amgen’s international government relations team located in Washington DC. They will drive employee engagement initiatives, foster a positive corporate culture, and manage internal communications in support of Amgen’s local and US business objectives. Building and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and navigating the complex domestic and geopolitical landscape to advocate for the company’s interests while ensuring compliance and maintaining the company’s reputation across all levels of operation will be key responsibilities of this role.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Reputation and Profiling: Develop and implement strategies to enhance Amgen's reputation and profile in Ireland through media relations, public affairs, and stakeholder engagement. 

  • Employee Engagement: Design and execute initiatives to foster a positive and engaging work environment, ensuring employees are informed, motivated, and aligned with Amgen's mission and values. 

  • Corporate Diplomacy: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, and community leaders, to advance Amgen's interests and objectives. 

  • Brand Development: Leverage Amgen's expansion in Ireland to strengthen the company's brand presence and visibility, promoting its innovative biotechnology solutions and commitment to improving patient outcomes. 

  • Strategic Communications: Craft and deliver compelling messages that effectively communicate Amgen's goals, achievements, and values to both internal and external audiences. 

  • Crisis Management: Develop and implement crisis communication plans to ensure timely and effective response to any potential issues that may impact Amgen's reputation. 

  • Team Leadership: manage a small team of 2-3 people. 

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Human Resources, Legal, and Compliance, to ensure cohesive and effective communication strategies. 

  • Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Corporate Affairs and/or Operations experience OR Master's degree and 8 years of Corporate Affairs and/or Operations experience 

  • Proven track record of successfully managing corporate reputation, employee engagement, and stakeholder relations. 

  • Strong understanding of the Irish media landscape and regulatory environment. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages. 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills. 

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities. 

  • Proficiency in crisis communication and issue management.
