Senior Software Engineer – Distributed Systems – Storage Protocols

Location:  Nasuni IIC Hyderabad, India  - Hybrid 3 days onsite / 2 days offsite

Role Overview

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and scale core platform services that power Nasuni’s distributed file data infrastructure.

This role focuses on developing backend systems, storage integrations, and Kubernetes-based services that operate in highly distributed, production environments. You will work on problems related to consistency, replication, performance, and system reliability at scale.

This role is best suited for engineers who have hands-on experience building distributed systems and backend services, and who want to deepen their ownership in cloud-native and storage-integrated platforms. It is not intended for candidates primarily focused on frontend development or purely application-layer work.

Level & Scope Definition

• Own the design, development, and delivery of backend services and platform components
• Operate with high autonomy within a defined subsystem (e.g., storage integrations, control plane services)
• Make technical design decisions at the component/system level
• Contribute to architecture discussions, but not accountable for org-wide architecture strategy
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Platform, QE, and Sustenance teams
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable backend services for distributed environments
• Build and enhance integrations with distributed storage systems and file protocols (NFS, SMB, S3)
• Develop Kubernetes-based services, including APIs, controllers, and operators
• Ensure system reliability through fault tolerance, replication, and recovery mechanisms
• Debug and resolve complex issues across storage, networking, and distributed systems layers
• Optimize system performance, scalability, and resource utilization
• Improve observability through logging, metrics, and tracing integrations
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and release processes
• Collaborate with QE and Sustenance teams to improve system testability and production readiness
• Use AI-assisted developer tools (e.g., code generation, debugging assistants) to improve development efficiency while validating correctness and performance

Qualifications

Must-Have Qualifications

• 6–9+ years of software engineering experience in backend or platform systems
• Strong programming skills in Go, Python, Java, or C++
• Hands-on experience building and operating distributed systems
• Practical understanding of consistency, replication, and fault tolerance
• Experience developing services in Kubernetes or containerized environments
• Experience debugging production systems across multiple layers (application, storage, networking)
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code copilots, debugging assistants) with the ability to validate outputs for correctness and performance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with distributed storage systems or file systems
• Familiarity with storage protocols such as NFS, SMB, or S3
• Experience building Kubernetes operators or controllers
• Exposure to observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Ideal Qualifications

• Direct ownership of a distributed storage or data platform component in production
• Experience optimizing large-scale systems (data size, throughput, latency)
• Experience improving system reliability through automated recovery or self-healing systems
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity or debugging workflows

Experience Guidelines

• 6–9 years total software engineering experience
• 3+ years working on backend or distributed systems
• 2+ years working with Kubernetes or containerized platforms (preferred)
