What you’ll be doing

This role is primarily responsible for the daily management of CAD central bank accounts, global foreign accounts, and USD correspondent accounts, including cash management activities for World Markets Inc. (Broker Dealer). The position holds accountability for originating and managing CAD short- and intermediate-term funding, ensuring optimal liquidity and cost-effective funding solutions.

In addition, this role encompasses a range of responsibilities under the mandate of Funding and Liquidity Management Trading Canada (FLM), including support for CAD funding activities. The incumbent is expected to maintain rigorous oversight of cash positions, proactively address funding requirements, and contribute to the effective execution of CIBC’s funding and liquidity strategies.

How you’ll succeed

  • Business Management – Effectively and efficiently manage CIBC’s cash flows and the funding of closing cash positions at the central bank and foreign correspondent nostro accounts to minimize costs and maximize revenues. Proactively fund cash positions with external counterparties, correspondent banks, and regional FLM Trading desks. Continuously monitor and manage intraday liquidity positions within various financial market infrastructures (CLS, Lynx, CDSX), promptly advising management of any limit violations and ensuring adequate liquidity is available to satisfy settlement obligations. Manage liquidity and settlement risk and reduce costs by trading settlement dislocation utilizing liquidity swaps in the Semaphore and Settlement Exchange markets. Provide comprehensive support to the Toronto Funding Liquidity Management Trading desk, including deal capture, reporting, analysis, and activities related to Canadian monetary policy.
  • Stakeholder Management- Maintain strong working relationships with CIBC’s correspondent banks globally, ensuring efficient and timely account information flow—critical for making time-sensitive funding decisions that may impact interest costs or pose reputational risk to CIBC. Assist in the forecasting, monitoring, and funding of the USD IMM Canada book and USD nostro correspondents, and contribute to detailed funding, variance, and liquidity reporting. Support all TCIM and CAD FLM Trading desks, acting in a swing capacity and serving as backup to traders as required, with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the business. Participate in the management, monitoring, and reporting of intraday liquidity, and support senior TCIM staff in developing and executing intraday liquidity reporting mechanics to meet regulatory requirements. Actively participate in industry committee work (CLS, TMX, Payments Canada), supporting senior TCIM committee members.
  • Daily Tasks- Execute daily funding tickets and provide timely reporting to Risk Management on deposit excesses. Analyze daily currency sources and uses of funds to deliver a complete currency position profile to management. Manage cash flows against main funding accounts within various currencies and coordinate end-of-day positions with relevant FLM Trading desks to ensure cost-effective funding of residual balances. Operate proprietary applications to forecast, manage, and reconcile foreign currency nostro-related balance activity. Manage intraday liquidity for global settlements and maintain reporting to satisfy regulatory requirements.

Who you are

  • You are designated. University degree in Business/Finance or equivalent experience. Canadian Securities Course required. CFA candidacy preferred
  • You can demonstrate experience. Solid understanding of global financial markets with experience in CAD short and intermediate term funding markets. Strong knowledge of cash management principles and practices, correspondent banking arrangements and
    services. Strong understanding of payments and settlement systems, associated risk models, use of funds concepts and compensation practices
  • Strong Communication Skills. Excellent communication skills, ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships
  • You are analytical. Extensive systems applications knowledge with a focus on MS Office Suite, (i.e. Excel, VBA) Strong forecasting and analytical skills, ability to work under pressure due to time constraints and high volumes
  • You can multitask. Ability to multitask and make time sensitive decisions around very large dollar value cash positions and transactions
