Your Role

A challenging and dynamic position supporting Arch’s E&S Property group, specializing in providing insurance solutions to business facing exceptional risks. As the lead actuary for this group, you’ll manage a team in developing tools and analyses that will drive profitability and risk selection in a growing segment where climate change and market dynamics require creative problem solving and innovative thinking to continue to deliver strong results.

Job Functions:

  • Business Leader: The primary role will be to provide Actuarial support to the E&S Property division, working closely with BU leadership, our catastrophe modeling team, and strategic analytics to shape the book of business. You’ll be creating new actuarial analyses and insights that provide actionable information to BU leaders to guide strategy.
  • Technical Pricing: Continue to improve technical pricing by developing accurate assessments of risk; this will include both refining the current structure as well as finding new predictors and building new models.
  • Tool Development: Lead the team in building and improving benchmarking tools in Excel and Python that will be used to provide individual account insight to the underwriter and monitor the health and mix change of the book.
  • Profitability Reviews: Provide insight to BU leadership and senior executives on the current health of the book, including finding meaningful differentiation between different products and segments.
  • Product Development: Help the BU to evaluate new opportunities, either partnering with MGAs to offer new products or developing them in house to continue to broaden and diversify Arch’s property offerings.
  • Team Development: Manage and mentor a strong team of actuaries and analysts, helping to develop Arch’s future leaders.

Key Evaluation Criteria

  • Most AVPs are qualified actuaries (generally ACAS/FCAS) with 10 to 20 years of experience, but exceptional performers have been recognized as early as 7 years.
  • Superior communication is a critical skill, as core responsibilities will be managing the BU relationship and presenting to senior executives.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong technical actuarial skills, able to build and refine actuarial studies and tools, including experience with rater development in Excel/Python or other platforms.
  • Prior experience in property pricing/ cat modeling is preferred but not required.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$129,500 - $201,066/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
