Make your mark in Fraud & Recovery

This position is responsible for managing the overall fraud and recovery program for the APAC region. The position requires proven leadership skills in managing a team of fraud investigators and recovery technicians across multiple countries within the region. The role holder must be able to build strong networks with claims, underwriting and external stakeholders and have a proven track record of delivering outstanding results.

The scope of the fraud role supports AIG to reduce the potential economic loss to the business through the identification and investigation of suspicious insurance claims or suspicious insurance related activities covering all lines of business.

The scope of the recovery role supports AIG’s strategy of maximizing recovery opportunity whilst minimizing recovery expenses, ensuring that there is consistency with the way recovery activity is enabled, tracked, monitored & reported.

Critical to the success of this position is the ability to engage, lead and inspire a team of fraud, recovery and salvage professionals to continue to deliver high quality results while creating the fraud and recovery capability of the future. This will involve leveraging new technology and skills and developing new and innovative techniques to help support and achieve AIG GI Claims goals, whilst at the same time developing and nurturing an organizational culture aligned to AIG’s defined purpose and values.

The position reports to the International Head of Fraud & Recoveries.

How you will create an impact

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:

  • Proactively drive an effective communication & engagement process with all stakeholders, managers and staff regarding results, key developments, recommendations and industry data.
  • Function as the AIG liaison and point of contact for the region with industry associations, regulators, law enforcement etc. as appropriate.
  • Work with claims and underwriting teams to understand where fraud exposure exists and where recovery opportunity is available. Create and implement strategies to maximise recovery value and mitigate fraud risk.
  • Support new product design and customer initiatives through deploying thought leadership and assessing the impact on recovery and inherent fraud risk.
  • Support the execution of the GI Claims Fraud & Recovery strategy, including deployment of technology initiatives, portfolio analytics, TPA & Vendor governance, shared services engagement and expense management.
  • Manage expenses within established and approved budget guidelines. Optimise usage of the fraud and recovery vendor panel, ensuring vendor performance is of the highest quality and delivering value.
  • Manage the implementation and monitor the effectiveness of regional training and awareness campaigns.
  • Work with claims managers in the region to improve the early identification, referral and triage of claims with suspicious features and claims with recovery potential.
  • Manage the collection and verification of all fraud & recovery related metrics for timely reporting to regional and global managers.
  • Manage the effective use of all fraud & recovery related tools and systems.
  • Ensure team’s compliance with all country laws and regulations regarding recovery best practices, guidelines, reporting & submissions and data privacy requirements.
  • Proactively engage and align priorities with other claims centres of excellence.
  • Plan, manage and evaluate work of staff; make decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment and staffing requirements. Partner with HR to help create the workforce for the future, including attraction, retention and talent development.

What you’ll need to succeed

Experience & qualifications required:

  • Proven ability to lead complex change initiatives with an ability to work to tight timelines when necessary.
  • Comfortable and flexible to work across differing time-zones to support engagement with other fraud and recovery regional leaders and contribute to the global fraud and recovery strategy.
  • A proven leader who can take ownership of their area of responsibility and work with their teams to win together in both virtual and in person environments, helping to develop and nurture the culture of the APAC region and broader organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of criminal and civil justice systems and relevant data and compliance legislations
  • Connectivity with relevant fraud and recovery industry associations, with demonstrable credibility.
  • An understanding of local customs, insurance markets and a strong knowledge of relevant fraud and recovery legislation is desired.
  • Advanced working knowledge in the investigation requirements for GI Consumer & Commercial products in region.
  • Ability to understand the recovery processes relating to subrogation and salvage in region.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets to assess trends and identify opportunities to drive improved results.
  • An excellent communicator with a strong collaborative mindset with the ability to influence stakeholders internally within Fraud and Recovery and with key stakeholders (Regional/Country Claims, UWs, Customers etc).
  • Experience and confidence to lead a diverse team and engage a geographically dispersed group of stakeholders.
  • Ability to leverage technology and analytics to achieve goals.
