Position Summary:
This role is responsible to supervise the day to day transportation department activities within assigned area(s) such as dispatching, routing, product/equipment security, equipment maintenance, etc. Assigns work to transportation associates and ensures productivity, safe work environment and efficient operations; and trains associates as necessary.
Here's what you’ll do:
Supervise the day to day transportation department activities within assigned area(s) such as dispatching, routing, product/equipment security, equipment maintenance, etc.
Work with cross-functional departments as it relates to the transportation/supply chain operations and ensure prompt and timely resolution of any issues.
Assign and update driver schedules and coordinate delivery changes through routing and scheduling software system(s) or work with dispatchers/route analysts to coordinate day-to-day scheduling of associates based on resources, volume, etc.; maximize resources and ensure most efficient routes for assigned area(s) to include customer deliveries and backhauls.
Ensure customer concerns are addressed in a timely and accurate manner.
Oversee the review of on-board computers and log reports to ensure/maximize performance of the assigned fleet.
Monitor driver schedules to include DOT hours, breaks, idle times, additional stops, total hours, etc.
Work with Fleet Safety/Compliance team to monitor Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance (i.e., DOT physical re-certifications, driver license renewals, random drug screening) and communicate information to drivers in a timely manner to ensure compliance.
Assist Transportation and/or Safety Manager with arranging and conducting safety meetings to reinforce compliance and address concerns/issues.
Oversee, review and/or approve driver incoming paperwork, driver logs and files, hours reporting, submission of driver payroll, and other transportation related activities accordingly; recommend changes as necessary and provide training to team on changes in processes and procedures.
Maintain transportation related reporting and monitor department KPI metrics; analyze metrics results and customer delivery schedules and partner with transportation/logistics, account representatives, warehouse operations, etc. to ensure most efficient, economical and cost effective routes.
Ensure the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment. This may include, but is not limited to:
Ensure compliance with distribution procedures and governmental regulations (i.e., DOT regulations, FMCSA regulations, safety, sanitation, etc.) and promote and reinforce safety and security awareness.
Oversee and ensure the cleanliness of the work environment.
Ensure proper maintenance of and report any issues related to equipment
Report and/or address any issues or work-related injuries, and participate in any investigations as required.
Coordinate and lead pre-shift meetings and ensure timely communication with associates on various topics (i.e., transportation/distribution procedures, safety, human resources programs, etc.).
Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.
May be responsible to assist with labor agreement administration, as necessary.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Here’s what you’ll need:
High school graduate or GED (required)
Three years of combined transportation and/or supply chain operations experience required; must have knowledge/experience within transportation.
One year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Class A CDL preferred.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good organization, prioritization, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Must be able to multi-task and have good follow through to meet deadlines.
Must have good leadership and training skills; ability to work with all levels of management and line associates.
Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs; must be available/on call during evenings or weekends to solve problems arising from equipment breakdowns, weather emergencies, or other situations that require problem solving.
Knowledge of transportation/logistics activities such as FMCSA/CSA compliance, DOT requirements, dispatching, backhauls, contract carriers, local regulations, etc.
Knowledge of transportation on-boarding software required; experience with Cadec preferred, and knowledge of dispatch software (CAMS, etc.) and/or routing software (JDA).
Proficient with computers to include MS Office (Excel and Word).

While performing the duties of this position, employees are subject to a warehouse environment and may frequently be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity based on assignment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, days and night hours, and overtime as necessary and as assigned, and must be able to work in the condition specified for 8-10 hours shift as assigned. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
