As part of the Studio Technology organization, you will join a group of seasoned technologists dedicated to solving a range of creative problems through innovation, strategy, and forward thinking. This role sits within the Motion Picture Technology at Walt Disney Studios, which is a group of specialty film making labs in Production Technology providing production services, research, development, innovation and support required for civilized filmmaking.

Job Overview

As a Software Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software and infrastructure used by our production teams across the live action studio banners (Marvel Studios, Motion Picture Production, Searchlight, and Twentieth Century Studios). You will be solving a range of interesting problems in innovative ways in an exciting and dynamic environment. You’ll report to the Sr Manager, Software Development within Motion Pictures Technologies’ Production Software & Pipeline team in Burbank, CA.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Develop software applications by writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Assist other developers, technical directors, and AI agents in authoring, debugging, testing, and maintaining existing software applications to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Work with senior developers and film production stakeholders to define project requirements and deliver solutions that align with business needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and code reviews, collaborating with team members to solve problems and improve software solutions.
  • Continually enhance your technical skills and knowledge by staying up to date with film and software industry trends and technologies.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation to support code development and ensure software maintainability.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues as they arise from film production users, working to resolve them efficiently.

Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in software development or a related field.
  • Primary experience with Python programming language. Understanding of web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., GitLab) and experience with development environments and debugging tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Comfort with using AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Cursor to facilitate development tasks.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to ever changing film production requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with server-side technologies and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Django, Flask).
  • Exposure to front-end frameworks or libraries such as React or Angular is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and tools (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) is beneficial.
  • Experience in building and deploying scalable solutions using Docker.
  • Experience with Python testing frameworks such as Pytest and Unittest.
  • Experience with task queuing systems like RabbitMQ or Celery.
  • Exposure to event-sourced or event-driven architectures with Kafka a plus

The hiring range for this position in Burbank is $117,500.00 - $143,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
