We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Worldwide Product Regulatory Counsel to lead our Global Regulatory team. This role will be instrumental in navigating the complex regulatory landscape that affects social interaction experiences and platforms, minor safety, consumer and privacy rights. The right candidate will bring a global approach to the role and understand and appreciate cultural sensitivities and distinctions, ensuring that our organization is advised of all relevant laws and relevant updates that could impact it, and work with internal teams to develop product and policy requirements while supporting our business objectives.

This position reports into the VP, Associate General Counsel / Chief Privacy Officer and will be based in San Mateo, CA.

You Will:

  • Regulatory Strategy Development: Design and implement a comprehensive regulatory strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and risk management practices; engage successfully with global regulators.
  • Regulatory Engagement: Support the team that is the primary liaison with regulators, legislators, industry, and other partners to advocate for the Company’s interests. Oversee the team that manages regulatory investigations, submissions and responses to all regulatory queries, enforcement actions, and other proceedings globally.
  • Product Counsel and Compliance Advisement: Advise the Product Counsel, Privacy and Compliance Counsel teams on implementation involving regulations that may impact the Company, and support the development, implementation, and monitoring of compliance programs to ensure adherence to applicable regulations (e.g., consumer laws, GDPR, OSA, DSA, data privacy, financial regulations, industry standards).
  • Legislative Advice: Work closely with the Public Policy team to analyze proposed legislation and advise on the impact to the Company.
  • Partner Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, including product managers, engineering, safety, and infosec, to identify potential regulatory risks and opportunities while fostering a culture of compliance.
  • Risk Assessment: In concert with the Compliance team, support regular assessments of regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies, reporting findings to senior management and the board.
  • Training and Awareness: Develop and implement training programs for employees on regulatory requirements, compliance procedures, and best practices.
  • Team Management: Lead and scale a global, high performing team.

You Have:

  • 15+ years experience in Legal & Regulatory affairs, compliance, or a related field, preferably within the tech. Prior in-house experience at a major internet platform with a deep understanding of content moderation functionality and related challenges is strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of global regulatory landscapes across the Americas, UK/EU and APAC, including GDPR, UK & Australian OSA, DSA, AI Act, privacy rights, data protection, online safety, consumer protection, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity of financial regulations applicable to internet platforms and ecommerce.
  • Proven successful track record of leading and managing cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Ability to work autonomously and reliably within tight timeframes in a fast-paced and high-performance environment while supporting multiple partners.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to engage and lead collaborators at all levels.
  • Proven track record of leading and supporting teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with an ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm to work with a fast-moving, innovative (and really fun) team.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

$344,740$376,710 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
