Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for teammates who'll help us maintain collaborative teamwork and are passionate about growing in their career.

You will:

  • Develop strategy for Verification and Validation of Vehicle Systems for new and existing autonomous vehicle platforms. This includes, among other domains, Power Systems, Thermal Management, User Experience, Networks, Body Controls, Cybersecurity.
  • Plan and schedule V&V campaigns based on the scope of Requirements.
  • Provide technical training to other Test Engineers to grow the team's collaborative ability. For example: use of test equipment, analysis tools, test methodologies, or scripting languages.
  • Lead the qualification of new Waymo driver SW releases for the Vehicle Test Engineering team.

You have:

  • 3+ years experience in Project management. Excited about understanding the scope of work, available resources and timeline, and translate it into schedules. Being able to make and communicate trade-offs between program conflicts.
  • Collaboratively communicate with Team and Partners. Managing multiple tests activities in parallel.
  • 3+ years experience in Test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability.
  • Data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink).
  • Bachelor and/or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace) or equivalent practical experience.

We Prefer:

  • Electromechanical systems: develop, and troubleshoot systems that combine HW, electrical systems, communications, and software.
  • Understanding of autonomous driving vehicles, infrastructure, and operations.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation
